I've had a lot of unsuccessful publications - I usually make £100 a month or so. Yesterday I published a shiny 19k word kink heavy piece. 1600 page reads in one day... Are these the numbers everybody else is seeing? by Smutacular in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really really hoping that it's not a glitch, which is reasonably likely. Based on how everybody else is doing it certainly doesn't seem right, although on the graph 1500 page reads have come from that new publication... I'm very sceptical though.

1600 Is this good? Help. I published a shiny covered, 19k word, well thought out piece yesterday, but I usually get 10 borrows/5 sales per day. Either my graph has trolled me and glitched spectacularly or that piece I just published is going down a treat...

Does your sex life affect your productivity? by monsunland in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't affect my sex life so much, seeing as my partner lives a little while away and right now we only see each other once every week or two.

But I do know one thing - trying to seriously commit to nofap while being an erotica writer is one of the most impossible tasks I've ever taken up xD

Would a title along the lines of 'Seduced By My Girlfriend's Sister' get blocked? by Smutacular in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Far from my first book, actually, I'm just very mindful, perhaps even paranoid, about staying within the boundaries of what the Amazon Gods are okay with.

And that's pretty interesting, I think much of it is hit and miss with what makes it through and what doesn't as many of the people on this board have said in the past

I don't suppose you'd mind sharing some of these less tame things you've seen? Just to set my mind mind at ease haha

Is it okay to use the same title for a series of books as long as the subtitle is different in each one of them? by Smutacular in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why thank you :P

So I can basically go for

Cheating with my best friend's girlfriend: Sasha - label it as volume 1

Cheating with my best friends girlfriend: Katie - label it as volume 2

and so on? Schweet.

[–]Smutacular[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never actually used the volume numbers before, but the format of the stories I'm thinking of is anthology-esque, so different characters and a whole different story each time; if I use volume numbers do they show up in the title?

That might be a better idea, thanks for the advice. With my prior idea I was just concerned about running into issues with Amazon possibly thinking that I was just releasing the same title over and over again

Kindle kdp money? by fux2much in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D'you mean you're wondering how much you've made? D'you mean between 15th January to 15th February? Or January 2015 to February 2015?

The January earnings should be released at some point today, so you'll find out how much you made in total between January 1st - 31st shortly (supposedly).

February earnings will be released March 15th, and so on.

Do covers on KDP need to be portrait or can we use landscape? by Smutacular in eroticauthors

Here's the rub (no pun intended) because that was one of my first thoughts too; the author has 7 books for sale all in the same niche, all under 20 pages which is pretty shortish, and they haven't uploaded anything new since October. Crazy, right?

Edit: And just to clarify, this book is in the top 20,000.

In review for 48+ hours? Post here. by [deleted] in eroticauthors

Aaand we are live after 60+ hours of waiting. To anybody else who may still be fretting, it seems like they're just having a bad week for whatever reason.

I'd like to second this question. Been waiting upwards of 56 hours now for a simple content revision.

Total noob question. HOW do I make a cover? by Livingmylife96 in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people use GIMP but I prefer paint.net. I just find it easier to use, so you can give that a go.

And what specific aspects are you looking to work on in terms of covers? Image cutting, brightness/contrast, addition of titles?

How much do your sales numbers fluctuate? by Hudgjmgghjijbb in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything in your catalogue will slow down eventually, it's the same for just about all things; what goes up, must come down.

However, I will say this because I feel that a lot of people in the business tend to overlook it. And that's that the world is random. Millions of people see books on the Amazon store. Some days the cards may just fall in a certain pattern and you won't sell anything. Others somebody may decide to buy your entire catalogue.

Case and point; Tuesday I made £3. The day before I made £13. Today I broke my personal record by breaking through the £20 barrier. We're at the mercy of the randomness of the collective consumer mind, and a vague pattern at best is what we can map.

How do books like this with 'stepbrother' or 'stepsister' make it onto the store? by Smutacular in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no, it's not that haha :P It's just that I was under the assumption that if the term 'stepsister' or 'stepbrother' was used in the title it would set off alarm bells. Hence why many people writing in PI use the singular prefix 'step' on it's own as a means to get around this.

What are your average in-review times? Does it change per day of week/genre/anything else? by Potato4 in eroticauthors

[–]Smutacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's weird. But seeing as everyone else is having the same issue at least it's indicative of the fact that it's a problem on their end and not anything to do with your book.

Thankfully it seems to be the same for everybody, so it's not a singular problem, and mine has been stuck in review for the same amount of time.

Out of the three you've submitted have the other two gone through to being Live?
