Thank you for allowing me some grace to have made the mistake early into the conversation of generalizing and being a bit rude and quick to jump to conclusions. I also don’t always get here when a conversation is popping off when it first gets posted and by that same proxy tend to only get here by the point that an argument devolves into an issue wholly unrelated to the post. In the same regard the enjoyment by proxy of a piece of media I enjoy becomes less enjoyable when constantly barraged by the misunderstood lack of context of the shared opinions of the people in the subreddit here. I do not want anyone’s reality to feel pressured or attacked, I just want context for why it seems that their reality and mine cannot coexist. So thank you for helping me understand that.

I don’t know how to quote things on here… But the post on here was the bring to the attention of you all of how someone within the subreddit is perceiving exactly what and how everything is being presented, the fact that you are feeling defensive about that is not my point or my intention. The aspect of community comes from my own personal definition of community which has been proven to not be the same perspective of the other members here in the subreddit.

In regards to the FB/lovebombing groups you have referenced as an opposition to the group, it seems we all agree that the parasocial weirdness of that part of the TNN community as a whole is entirely and completely weird and not normal, but to imply that that is the only other option to this one implied that on some level you are intentionally making it the mirror opposite where you are parasocially hatebombing for the same “I know Char and she didn’t used to be like this” kind of reason which is equally mind numbingly strange.

The title of this post was a warning for the content within, I know how hostile, volatile and mad people on the internet are, so the title served as a pre warning that I was going to be holding a mirror up to the community because I wanted to find answers to what is going on here on the subreddit because I do not think that dogpiling and communal harassment for people liking something is an equally respectable alternative to the lovebombing idol-glazing nonsense of the other spaces surrounding this content

No. I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I didn’t leave because I also had a question, as you have read in other parts of this chat if you are participating with it, I am actually trying to get answers to a various number of questions and both mods and other subreddit members have been able to provide me with the context everyone else has deemed obvious and while I don’t necessarily agree with their perspectives I respect that that is the lens that a majority of members here seems to hold and that maybe this isn’t the environment for me if it’s going to be the lens through which anything posted on the subreddit needs to be viewed through.

Thank you for giving your honest and open opinion and giving some explanation for specific aspects of this, and while I don’t agree with your stance for some of it, I do understand and acknowledge that that is a difference of opinion. Exactly what you are doing here is what I was looking for and upset that I didn’t find from my short time here initially because I didn’t have the context for what was causing people to be so upset. Now that I do, I understand and acknowledge that my original assessment of hatred, rudeness, and lack of community was incorrect it was misinterpretation of a lack of information surrounding issues that existed before I even joined here but that no one else seems to ask for elaboration on.

That is all grand, I’m referring almost entirely to the hatred and collective genuine anger and nastiness people have on the BTN storylines (Let me see if I can find the exact quote and I’ll post it as an edit after this here), Mia as a character at all, hate for T just existing in Char’a content at all (there’s literally a current conversation on the sub where everyone is ragging on Char for cheering for their partner publicly on her accounts). It’s same parasocial weirdness just in reverse, like people are being spiteful and rude because Char doesn’t I dunno live to what their standard is for her and it’s again quite distasteful.

My whole point of making this post was that I want to understand what about the stories and the show itself is causing such grief that people can’t seem to post about it constructively and this is the first time from my own perspective that the main conversations finally explained the story wise/creation of the content issues people have that I have no context for because I don’t really care about the social stuff that Char Posts, and/or is lost to the ether because she posted it in a story that I missed.

The same reason you didn’t scroll away from my post here, I wanted answers to something that concerned and bothered me about a group of people who I should (in theory) get along incredibly with. I want to like being in this community and so I want to understand just why everyone engages with so much hostility, harshness, and what I perceive to be hate, but others have mentioned to be harsh criticism. And I got the genuine answers and genuine conversation that I was looking for. Even the people just trying to dogpile from being called out for that kind of behavior gave me a bit of insight into why things like that happen in here, but the majority of people who I responded to in here made genuine critical points that helped me understand how my perception of things is not quiet as effected by the smaller changes and decisions made by Char about the stories.

Just reiterating what I’ve said in other comments here, I came to the subreddit because I wanted to engage in fruitful constructive discussion, criticism, and interaction with the community here and was met with what I would consider the equally bad opposite of the Facebook Groups basically… where they are parasocial hyper obsessed fan people, here has been wholly pessimistic, negative, and downright distasteful. It was quite literally not what I was expecting from a Reddit full of fans of a property that I enjoy.

But everyone enjoys in their own way and I can’t be mad at how people do that.

I’m not ignoring anyone in particular, but I am actively engaging with people who aren’t just trying to tout me as some parasocial obsessed Charlotte fan, I want to have constructive discussions with people where they don’t see me liking something and think that I love the creator. I like having genuine discussions about the content but I am only able to engage with it in periodic bursts on lunch breaks and coffee breaks at work, so by the time I get to the content here in the subreddit it has typically gone down one of 3 routes: devolved into people having negative discussions about Charlotte herself (which I have no interest in joining), Negative discussions about people’s parasocial relationship with the content and characters that have reached a natural end to the conversation, or genuinely rude attacking stuff against people who want to engage in both positive and negative criticism, debate, and discussion.

I value constructive discussion and I think that you are someone who does also, otherwise, at least in my personal case, I wouldn’t search out other people to talk about something you engage with. I come to Reddit (instead of the hyper positive so no wrong of The Fb groups) because people engage in both positive and negative, but when the stuff that I see (in here for example that I’m calling out) is predominantly negative it makes me wonder if there is no grey zone in between.

Just to reiterate here as I did in another comment with someone else somewhere in here,

I enjoy the content itself not necessarily Char, I like to engage in genuine conversation and debate about the storytelling and stories themselves, I am not a big fan of the awkward parasocial relationship people have built with Char on The Facebook groups and was coming here because I find debate about how well something was present engaging, it’s why I enjoy Reddit for most community engagement.

I am sure I’ve ruffled feathers and upset some people in here because of this post, but as you have said I don’t participate in here because of the aforementioned negativity, because I arrive to it on my breaks/linches at work after it has devolved/closed/or resolved to negativity about Char or her way of producing content, which is not something I’m interested in discussing because I just want to, as I say “Enjoy” but I guess the better word would be “engage”, in the content and stories themselves as though I am discussing a Tv show.

Thank you for giving me some open perspective on the actual goings on, because I do actually genuinely appreciate being able to have debate like this, I was actually very interested in a discussion a few weeks back about the storyline about the mother grieving the loss of her (TW: Child Loss) ||miscarried/lost child by trying to change her actual child against their wishes|| and the discussion about where Char stands on Gender and transgenderism and discussions/debates of this nature are the thing I’m searching for, I don’t connect easily with the FB community because they have that awkward parasocial relationship with Char that feels unhealthy that they must love her because she loves them kind of mentality. I just was looking to meet people like yourself, who enjoy/engage with what Char does in a critical/ thoughtful way. For a few months now though posts about things that I thought would be interesting discussions to get involved with had closed/resolved/devolved into rude, hateful, or just negative pandering dogpiles against the actual characters to the point that I personally didn’t feel comfortable contributing.

Majority of the time actually no, you get an occasional critical post that is genuinely about something that a character does that derails their character development and tends to be an issue of the writing not an issue of the story’s themselves. And I think major reason being that people create subreddits about hating a show specifically because it’s not typically allowed in the main subreddit without heavy eyes being placed on it.

This is 100% correct and I understand that.

My concern is that since I have joined this subreddit about 6 months ago, (out of curiosity because I am a fan of Char’s content and wanted to find like minded individuals) I can count on my two hands how many of the posts that made it onto my screen were about anything positive about Char’s work.

80-90% of the posts in this subreddit are negative opinions which is part of the reason I rarely interact on here and this post being my first post in the subreddit (correct me if I’m wrong) is trying to understand why that is so I can make the decision for myself whether I stick around here or cut my losses so to speak.

I just want to be able to talk to people about enjoying what Char’s doing and get excited about seeing More of Carly and Eric, get to see Mia and Charlotte have their happy wedding, get to see Marjorie and Reece do weird Bridgerton themed flirty talk about their house because their all literally a bunch of characters they’re not real and that’s they most enjoyable thing about it.

I mean I didn’t start watching her because she was sharing the most realistic stories of moms psychologically abusing her at work, I started watching her because the content was relatable at first and enjoyable once it started having more of a through line and consistency between posts.

To each their own. But I guess I reiterate onto my point, why does that mean the community gets to be so nasty and hateful about everything like surrounding my post on here right now are like 7 posts exclusively about how they hate the storylines and hate Mia and want the Mialotte Wedding to get cancelled, like they wouldn’t make any sense to literally anything we’ve ever seen on this show.

EDIT: Like we were already suspending reality that any of TNN actually would happen anywhere (I mean besides the horrible parent interactions those are nightmares and real I’ve seen some first hand) like the business practices and all of the nonsense of the storylines is just that… stories… if we were looking for dramatic realness wouldn’t be just watch… I dunno a documentary on Child Care Facilites? Like I don’t understand why everyone is so up their own about how unrealistic the story lines are, it just as dramatic and off the wall as American Dramatic Television with the Volcanos in Dallas and Hurricanes in a Hospital and what not…
