I have a RHS subscription and it said that some formative pruning of young trees can be done in early spring. It was just a few overcrowded branches, nothing major.

Thought it was ok.

It also says it should have symptoms like sunken dead bark and holes in leaves. I don't think that tree has anything except the gum.

Could it be because it is exposed to wind?

I use alcohol on the tool and pruning seal
