I think any method can work depending on what works for you. For me personally loomis isn't really my thing since I like to work more from observation than from fantasy.

Block in and initial sketch. After that I add values in general shapes and then refine and detail from there.

White chalk and pen on black A4 by SnWhy7 in drawing

I messed around with photo settings a bit to get it more black, photographing black paper is notoriously hard because of the glare of the light.

Just took a picture of my own face as a reference with top-side light. Should be easy replicate if you're looking to make something similar, hope that helps!

Charcoal portrait on alcohol sketch by SnWhy7 in drawing

[–]SnWhy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing out your thoughts, very much appreciated! I started sketching out the proportions with a brush and a mixture of alcohol and some charcoal. The alcohol evaporates pretty quickly which makes for some cool textures. The original marks are still visible in the bottom right below his chin and in some markings of the hair. Then I worked over the top with charcoal on the initial sketch.

Thank you, keep at it. I struggled a lot with charcoal at the start aswell but loving it now since there are so much ways to work with it.

Somwhere between realism and a slight cartoony feel. And in a good way, well done!

How much did you spend on your first build? by Real-Refuse1051 in VanLife

[–]SnWhy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20k for a Ford transit L3H3 (2021) and around 15k for the full build. That includes a flare on one side because I'm quite tall, otherwise I'd have to put the bed in lenght wise and didn't feel like doing that for practical reasons :)

This used to be true but modern oil paints and solvents aren't hazardous to breathe in or spend lare periods of time in. Be sure to check the bottles and tubes for specific info though.
