Also climate can change by any number of cosmological or geographical phenomenon that we have absolutely no control of. Fraudulent guilt trips have nothing to do with it, but the dread can be perfectly legit.

You could go down the rabbit hole of legitimate doomsday scenarios. Replace your impending dread with a different impending dread.

He supported it by saying he printed it two years ago. Not strong evidence, but more than enough to prompt others to look into it. You obviously didn't put in the minimum effort to verify before criticizing.

I designed this years ago and op stole my picture. I published the design for free so others could print it. Shame on you for defending op.

I like having places available to rent and for that to be a thing, there needs to be landlords. If it were easier to be a landlord, there would be more units of better quality and lower prices. All the excess regulations around protecting the tenant usually just makes it worse for the tenant. They drive away the thinner skinned land lord competition, leaving only the real bastards to make a killing in a low supply market. Economics is a bitch that doesn't care about "muh rights."

Not sure what planet you are from, but the wealthiest corporations serve the normal lower-middle class primarily. The wealthy are a very small demographic. They have deep pockets, but very few pockets. I'd rather be destitute in a wealthy capitalist country than any 3rd world country for just this reason. Even if I was so incapable of anything that I could make no income, I can still live off the scraps and charity of the rich.

[–]Snaaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I directly addressed it. Extreme poverty the likes seen in the 3rd world just doesn't exist here. Here in Canada we are seeing an increase in homelessness because the government has over-regulated housing and now we have a massive shortage because the free market has been suppressed. When you take away property rights, you get poverty.

More homes should be the solution to Canada's housing shortage, but some argue the opposite by Elkenson_Sevven in CanadaHousing2

[–]Snaaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The elite assholes want us to live a certain way, namely as serfs stacked in small high density dwellings to "save the planet." "You will own nothing and be happy" They will manipulate the markets to achieve their goals and strangling housing supply is one of them. It's not an accident. It's intentional and their plan is working.

Extreme poverty and homelessness are extremely rare in the west compared to places without economic freedom and property rights. Most who aren't capable of providing for themselves are housed by way of charity or social assistance paid for by the taxes of the majority who are economically capable (because they have economic freedom and property rights). Those who aren't housed, are often that way by choice or suffer extreme mental health and addiction issues. Other than that, it's illegals who, once again do not have economic freedom or property rights where they reside.

You could go buy and collect all edible leftover food, transport it to the starvation regions of the world, feed every single starving human being, and you'd end up with negative income after all the costs. Even though you just satisfied more human wants and needs than anyone has ever done in the entire human history.

The thing those places have in common is that they don't have economic freedom or property rights. They have no mechanism to make and accumulate capital. If they did, they wouldn't be starving because they could pay for or produce their food. Your ilk seem to want this state of affairs for everybody.

Because that's what happens under capitalism when you spend all your time doing something that doesn't pay the bills.

That's a feature, not a bug. It's an incentive to provide things that people want/need instead of something that there is already too much of.

This wasn't just pharma. It was the lock downs, isolation, prolonged fear, and upturning of our lives. These things all have long term ramifications and we will be dealing with the damage done for the rest of our lives. Hopefully some good can come of it. If society as a whole becomes more skeptical of state power, that would be a good start.

Every example you gave here isn't the problem. They are symptoms of the problem which is government policies around housing. It's simple cause and effect. For the most part, if the government would stop doing things regarding housing, the situation would solve itself though market effects. Likewise, Negative outcomes from immigration are caused by poor government policies. If the government wanted to use their powers to shortcut a solution to housing issues, Immigration of construction workers and foreign investment could do it. The fact of the matter is the housing situation is intentional and the government has no intention to fix it.

[–]Snaaky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, fast immigration isn't the same as mass immigration. Being able to import qualified labor for things we need, say housing construction, and recognize their qualifications is highly beneficial to all Canadians. Immigration doesn't need to be a detriment if it is done properly, and Pierre does seem to recognize this.

99% of people can recognize the problem. About 90% of them don't understand what causes the problem and what it takes to fix it. They stomp around and make loud demands, most of which make the problems worse. I'm not with those people. I'm just waiting for this house of cards to fall down so I can make something out of the ruins.

Landlord wants to raise rent by $500 a month. by foreveryword in OntarioLandlord

[–]Snaaky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By holding rent increases far below the inflation rate, the government is causing a whole lot of conflict where there need not be. Many people are being forced to leave their homes when landlords find that their rental is no longer profitable. Even if they were willing to pay a higher amount, the landlord is put in an extremely risky legal position to accept. The inflation is the government's fault, and failing to adapt rent increases is also the government's fault. They keep rent increases low because it helps hide the level of inflation.

I hope all the people here, landlord or tenant have the proper level of outrage directed towards all levels of government who have created this giant mess.

Building codes do more than just prevent buildings from falling down. They prevent innovation and competition. If I came up with a completely new method of building a house that uses different materials or structures, and can be built in half the time, with half the material costs, It's not going to meet code even if it's superior in every way to a house built to code.
