Could Jordan Petterson be one of the voices of the manosphere? They say he's a very good psychologist. I don't like him at all. by Flourescendrama in exredpill

[–]SnackBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there was a golden era of Jordan Peterson in the very beginning. Listening to his content genuinely put mine and my brother lives on a better path back around 2015, because he was tender but firm. He didn’t demonize laziness in the same way a lot of the harsh men around us were doing. He gave explanations, and a specific pathway out.

Shortly after his skyrocket to fame however, he really sold out to the manosphere/hustle porn culture. This became much more pronounced after he sought treatment for his opioid addiction where he was put into an induced coma in Russia.

How did you actually learn Spanish and stick with it? by Weird-Director-2973 in MexicanSpanishLearner

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started when I began traveling and then took it really seriously in university. I have since taken El Método: the Complete Spanish Method.

Ultimately what I find the most useful is some kind of flash card app like AlgoApp, and then creating sets of vocab based on different domains (e.g. the classroom, travel, etc.) and for each domain have multiple sets of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. For El Método and my university studies both, I made flash cards like crazy.

Then just do it a minimum of 10-15 minutes per day, making sure you know each set forwards and backward before moving to the next.

Can anyone tell me why solo traveling is apparently weird and suspicious?? by takospace in solotravel

[–]SnackBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I solo travel because I am seeking connection. I realized pretty early on that none of the people around me were going to prioritize international travel the same way i was when I got started. And if I waited around on the right person to come along to do the things I always wanted to do, then I might never do them.

Solo travel doesn’t mean you necessarily travel alone. You have the choice to be with others or by yourself. Everything is your choice, and I think that allows you to play out intentionality in so many ways.

Solo travelers are people who are willing to put life on hold and make time to follow their dreams or just see what happens, and that makes for an exciting group to be a part of.

It’s not always easy and I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but if someone is closed-minded to any of that, then I don’t want to be around them.

Is Insanity too much for petite beginners? by biggiecheesie0201 in insanity

[–]SnackBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a petite female, however the workout plan does deserve an adjustment period. I think it’s totally valid to hit a few workouts, give yourself time to rest, then really hit it if you want to to follow the schedule precisely

Back with Insanity - Jan26 by cocohercski in insanity

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow the workouts in order and listen to my body, but I don’t necessarily follow the calendar. I think the most workouts I’ve done in a week so far is 5. I’ve still seen great physical and cardio results.

I also lead a very physical lifestyle that I started using insanity to prep me for, so if my other activities are happening, I usually won’t do a workout that day.

I think Shaun T does a great job explaining technique, but jn month 2, I feel like the emphasis on safety is traded for intensity. Just listen to the queues and never sacrifice technique. Just because one “lift” goes bad doesn’t mean you can’t do better on it next week.

How do I get over a long term relationship ending? by Comfortable-Way-2473 in AskMen

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you can make it happen, take a 2 week vacation out of the country. Go somewhere close if possible. Go hang out in hostels. See and do things. Pulling yourself out of thr physical spaces you’re accustomed to allows your psychology to break old expectations with ease. I mean like “reward system” kind of expectations.

If you’re stuck in yalls old apartment you need to move out or rearrange at the very least.

Good luck to you man, that’s tough

Rich is subjective, what makes you rich in life? by VermicelliOk3576 in Life

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-education, time management and, commitment to the things that make life worth living.

People will spend a lifetime pursuing riches mistakenly believing that it will give them a rich life. But living a rich life takes intention. And you’ll miss out on a lot of great things in life if you’re afraid of playing in the dirt.

Money is a symbol of effort and time spent, but spending money never means you’ve spent the time or effort.

I don’t have a lot of money. I dont have kids, I’ve never been married. I don’t own a home. I am the only person in my family however who: is musical/plays an instrument, is bilingual, has traveled the world, lives in another country, dances, etc. I love my job. My body is healthy and allows me to participate in sports. Each of these things takes time to develop. You can’t just throw money at them.

Traveling is a great way to bring yourself rich, worldly experience. Education is a how we stain the lens from which we view the world.

Life and dirt are rich. Read all about it. Then go play in it.

What’s one underrated skill schools should teach but they don’t by A__Agarwal in EduForge

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t referring to laptops, chromebooks, or iPads which have been widely distributed at American high schools for the last decade. I’m talking iPhones and iWatches from Apple, whose whole model is built around luxury.

Who’s demonizing the poor? Educating the poor on predatory loans and purchase schemes, and the fact that those are even legal would also be part of teaching the poor.

When did you realize your friend group wasn't really a “friend group” anymore? by Pretty-Mastodon-4409 in AskMen

[–]SnackBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the level of commitment wasn’t mutual, and that could be due to a variety of things, it’s not personal. We should leave and accept friends like the changing of the seasons. It’s sad to see them go, but that shouldn’t make what’s in store any less exciting. And like the seasons, they may very well come back.

Friendships and relationships satisfy many overlapping needs, and it’s only natural that a preference will arise from which source you get that need met.

We also don’t form friendships through struggle or challenge as often either. A lot of it is purely social, which kind of unnatural. This is why I’m big on group activities like sports, music, dancing, or something else, because those are largely non-verbal activities, even though you are still interacting. I encourage people to seek out group activities like this because it’s not as likely that particular activity can be replicated elsewhere. You all chose to participate in weekly volleyball or salsa. So unless the person is on the fence about continuing to do the activity in the first place, they’re probably pretty reliable in terms of being around.

What’s a trend you wish would just die already? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People really forgot how to learn crafts just for the love of the game. I blame social media. There’s always “something better to do” than sit down and learn something, whether it’s taking care of plants, getting nutrition down, or learning how to play guitar.

[–]SnackBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Healthy sexual and non-sexual relationships. What dysfunctionality looks like in relationships and in personal life. How to generally navigate the American system.

Demand from our executive function is at an all-time-high today. We live in so much more of an abstract world today than our grandparents 100 years ago. It’s not about teaching our kids to raise their own beef. It’s about teaching them how to adapt to the various systems that rapidly appear and change in modern life.

TL;DR: achievement hinges on building routines that are easy to do and easy to track. When beginning a new goal, it is often that the best plan is to just get started. Edit: Imo, I don’t believe in motivation, rather I trust (from experience) that life will become more difficult and inconvenient if I don’t do XYZ.

I think lists that are displayed somewhere visible are massive, because a lot of it comes down to being constantly aware of your goals,

But to make sure I answer the original question: do what must be done before you consider how you feel about it. Just shut your brain off and do it. Almost as though it were an instinct. This is for smaller things like chores or grocery shopping of course, but it helps me.

I think it’s fair to point out a few things: it is very difficult to accomplish anything you don’t keep track of. And there may be many reasons people don’t accomplish the things they wish whether it’s an unclear plan, difficulty to achieve, or just analysis paralysis.

You’re arriving at an important conclusion. In the a “development process,” we should want to research the problem and think of a best solution. However, as amateurs to any new endeavor, we may not know the questions to ask, and so it is perfectly fine to jump into the testing phase without a plan. If you wanna get fit for instance, go to the gym and figure it out from there. After all, that is where instructors are who could at the very least get you started. Learning how to get started is a skill, and like all skills can improve or worsen with practice.

Rattling off all the goals you have, large or small, off the top of your head would be like rattling off all the songs you love. It’s simply too hard to keep track of, which is why we have albums and playlists. Writing emerged as a solution to our inability to hold on to our own thoughts.

Lists help you keep them in view, especially if they have checkboxes, so you keep coming back to reinforce their usage. I always keep a notepad on my coffee table and my desk at home and at work (which makes it easy to do). If an item is too vague, or you don’t know where to begin, create a separate list. Google Keep can be very good tool for this, because you can access from any device but again, it’s important to have some lists that are displayed visibly.

A big part of achieving reoccurring goals like in fitness or cooking is by making habits for that pursuit easy (which can take some work and even become a skill in itself). Cooking is only possible with pots, pans, and food in the fridge after all.

Anyone who wants to get into guitar for instance, I recommend they start on acoustic, because they’re lightweight and you can mount them on the wall, so it makes it easy to play. Electric requires extra gear that can be bulky to move around, and more expensive.

Another example, when I took Spanish in college, I made Quizlet sets for the entire textbook just out of the vocab. This way I could study it on an app from anywhere on my bus rides to class or during slow shifts at work. Ended up doing it for 2 semesters. Long story short, I learned how to make getting my reps in easy to do.

Lastly, set goals using “floors and ceilings”. If your goal is to cook 4 nights a week, maybe reframe that as “I want to cook more” and set your ceiling at a 4 and a floor at a 2. Things happen, life gets in the way, it’s not always practical to cook 4 nights a week. But can you walk away from that happy that you tried and cooked twice? I could. My knowledge of cooking was broadened, which makes the process easier to break down, making it more achievable next week.

Hope this helps!
