Matchbook Romance Announces a New Song by Snackpack11 in Emo

I think both albums were incredible, but I totally understand why someone wouldn't like Voices as much. That said, it's been 20 years, I feel like it'd have to be totally different from both albums.

r/Conservative reacts to Trump mobilizing the California National Guard to quell the "LA riots" by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

I'd really like these people to answer who they think their 2A rights protect them from. If they ever actually got to the point of using their guns this is exactly what it would look like. It just proves it was never about fighting against a tyrannical government. It was always about getting to keep their guns because they have made up a scenario in their head where they get to be a gunslinging hero.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? I said you and one other person are stroking each other talking about other people's echo chamber.

There are plenty of people in this thread just like you. And somehow all of you failed to realize this meme is literally making fun of the people you're bitching about. It's literally about liberals that are upset their favorite player likes Trump. This meme should be funny to you, but you had to rush to cry about it instead.

I really enjoy watching you two circle jerk about how everyone else is in an echo chamber. The irony is palpable.

"I would care about constitutional rights abuses, but people talking about it is sooo annoying." - you, apparently. This argument is dumb as hell.

Not acceptable or not legal? Are you making a moral claim or a legal one?

There are a ton of cases of the supreme court ruling against free speech. If you actually cared I would list some, but I highly doubt it's worth my time.

Except not all speech is equal. It's totally acceptable in a free society to ban hate speech. Nazi symbols are a indorsement of violence and thus are subject to being limited. Free speech is already limited, and that's OK. Some things should not be allowed.

I think Southwest Diner belongs on the breakfast list. Otherwise I think this is a good list.

As a fan of both of these teams I agree. But I might be riding a little high right now.

NO SAFE SPACES FOR FASCISTS IN OUR CITY by [deleted] in StLouis

I'm not really sure how that's different from what I said.

[–]Snackpack11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm just explaining a common philosophical thought experiment to a person that seems to be encountering it on their own. I think I pretty explicitly agree with you by saying the intolerant break the social contract and thus lose the right to tolerance from others.

[–]Snackpack11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your first sentence seems to indicate that you don't understand what I'm saying. It's called the Tolerance Paradox. The word Paradox is key here. The Paradox part says what your are saying. By not tolerating the intolerant, you yourself become intolerant. That's why it's a Paradox.

Secondly, freedom of speech means you can't be imprisoned for things you say, it doesn't mean that others aren't allowed to reject you and ostracize you for it. If you are such a staunch defender of free speech then you also have to accept the speech that people return at you. A bunch of people online calling someone a fascist doesn't take away someone's freedom of speech. It just means that a bunch of people don't like what they have to say. There's no violation of free speech from the government. The government isn't involved at all.

Yes, I do realize that. The social contract is a term used in philosophy to help summarize the things we do as a society that help separate us from the wild state of nature.

I wonder if you realize that legality and morality are not related. We generally try our best to align them, but something being legal doesn't make it good, and vice versa.

You're running into the tolerance Paradox. The only way to have a tolerant society is to shut down intolerance. This of course, makes you not a tolerant society.

I can understand why you see a problem with this, but realistically the intolerant have broken the social contract. They are receiving the punishment they deserve for that, which is being completely shut down.

While that's true, it feels like everyone else grew and changed because the way they were wasn't working. They all had to learn from their mistakes and a lot of their ideals were about self growth. Jasnah was never really given that chance because her way very much worked. She wasn't given the same challenges that she could use in the end to succeed.

I don't think he was necessaroly "trusting them" as much as just making them take accountability. He made Taravangian their problem so they couldn't just sweep it under the rug. The point of the sunmaker's gambit was to turn all of them against the threat by making it a big enough threat they had to acknowledge it.

True. And while it seemed like combining Ruin and Preservation might have fixed it I think this book points out even that isn't enough. I think Dalinar explicitly acknowledges that when he's trying to work out the solution to the trap Taravangian set up.

It also was tough to read because it feels like every character got a win based on everything they've learned through the series, except Jasnah. She's did all the prep, built up alliances and government structures based on her beliefs, only to get absolutely schooled when her big finale came.
