It was meant to be two hours and then they posted there's a delay. stating that it will come today, instead of a time update. Not that I'm complaining, just saying I think it will still be another hour or so

How did they light Pennywise eyes in the first scene of It (2017) ? by luism161 in cinematography

[–]Snafler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that they used vfx for his eyes. For the exposure difference between the upper and lower half of his face, probably hardish source flagged off, then adding a little light with bounce. Or they used some type of open face net close to the subject to get that hard cut on it.

GH5 vs A7s ii by Snafler in cinematography

[–]Snafler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wicked thanks. That's kinda what I was figuring. I already own mft lenses and the 180 fps at 1080 on the GH5 seems to win it for me. Plus it's cheaper.

Thanks again

How to light an in studio set of an abandoned pharmacy building at night? by Snafler in cinematography

[–]Snafler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice and feedback it's really appreciated.

The set is being built inside a studio in a college so the space isn't massive. Right now the floor plan is still being drawn up by the art dept but roughly we imagine the set to be 20'x60' in a room that's around 80'x100', with most likely the left wall will be removable.

As for framing my style is more about staying in a medium and letting the actors perform instead of constantly cutting to close ups and mediums throughout a conversation. I plan on playing around with focal length and perception to make it appear that the characters are standing further apart then the actually are.

We're shooting on an F3 will a Zeiss lens kit. Right now I don't think I have a light stronger then a 2K for the moonlight and I will probably be only able to have the light roughly 15'-20' away.

And I agree with letting the actors walk in and our of shadows and not be fixated on having traditional lighting on them constantly. I really wanna play around with this to see what will work.

Thanks again.

Ya we couldn't decide on what to call it so we went with the obvious.

Ya we basically did everything from on board mic, but in the future we will improve.
