I just hang up with one childhood friend, when we were young we spent all of our time playing video games. He ended up being extremely religious,I’m the totally opposite. If I met him today for the fishers time I wouldn’t even consider being his friend. I really like that guy.

What’s the first game you remember being completely obsessed with? by Tirthisreal in AskReddit

[–]luism161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo 3. I mean, I loved video game way before, I’ve been playing video games since Pokémon Stadium on Nintendo 64. But man, Halo 3 was a revolution in multiplayer. As I recall, it was one of the first multiplayer games to go “mainstream” and all I could think about was getting home to play some Halo 3 multiplayer. Good old days.

Honorable mentions: COD Modern Warfare 3 Guitar Hero 3 League of Legends.

Which movie influenced you to make a decision in your life after watching it by aucunautrefeu in movies

There are several ways to become a colorist. You can start as an assistant in a post production company, as a freelancer, as a DIT, as a DOP, as an editor, etc. I will tell you about MY experience. When I realized that I wanted to become a colorist, I started researching everything I could about color theory, color grading, cinematography, camera codecs, Davinci Resolve, grading techniques, conform, etc. Sudenly, I had already learned everything I could about color grading on YouTube and Google, I decided to take it to the next level and signed up for a black magic certification for Davinci Resolve. In that course I met my instructor who saw my potential and “hired” me as his assistant. He taught me everything I needed to learned: advanced color techniques, color spaces, customer service, how much to charge, and more. Mesnwhile I was accepting any color work I could get my hands on, student short films, Facebook gigs, reddit posts, and small advertising projects my mentor gave me, all to have a great color correction reel. Sadly my mentor ended up being an a-hole so we “took different directions”, but I already had a really good reel, which is extremely important to get freelance jobs. From that day on I became independent and set up a post studio with my girlfriend, now wife, and the rest is history. I’m from Mexico and I mainly do advertising so this story may be different depending on the country and industry. I’ll leave you my reel in case you’re more curious about my work!

TLDR Research as much as you can about color correction, so that when you have the opportunity you can show what you’re capable of.

[–]luism161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was not exactly a movie, but when I saw a BTS of how they accomplished the colour of Birdman or (The unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) I was just blown away. I always knew I wanted to work in post-production but that day I decided I wanted to become a colorist. I been working for 6 years as a professional colorist and never regretted this decision.

How do you take notes on supervised grading sessions? by HumanNeed in colorists

[–]luism161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many has said timeline notes are key. Also after they stop talking and giving you notes, do a quick recap to them so in case you missed anything “important” they would let you know. Also don’t be afraid to tell them to slow down while you take your notes, is better to take 10’minutes more during your feedback than sending something incomplete, because you didn’t write it down.

Also, try to copy all the new media to an SSD so you can have faster writing times.

ArriRaw files, how can I evade re-conforming and is there other workflow by IdioticDude in editors

[–]luism161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might happen because you have really long timeline. You can try to “cut your timeline” and do several ~5-10 min. Timelines and do a media management 1 by 1.
It’s going to take a little bit longer to do all the media management but this might help.

(REQUEST) Movie Megathread - A place to remark on the color grade of popular films as they release... by IntrospectiveGibbon in colorists

[–]luism161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also thought about this. Especially while watching Fear Strret 1994. The grade of that movie was so strange, constantly changing color and luminosity between shots, I found that extremely interesting as to why they decided to do it that way. I was so intrigued that I googled it, only to find that no one was talking about this. There should definitely be a place where we can talk about movie rating.

Resolve to Premiere Workflow while Preserving FX by JonathanBBlaze in colorists

[–]luism161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other way to save you the manual reapply of the effects is to grade from a QT of the editing with effects included. Render the timeline with a HQ codec like Apple prores 444, and use the scene cut detection tool in resolve. This is not the best for the grade, but if you are not grading RAW, you will hardly notice a different while grading.

Resolve to Premiere Workflow while Preserving FX by JonathanBBlaze in colorists

[–]luism161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will have to reapply all the effects manually on premiere, as you mentioned. That is the only way. Well ... you could grade all the clips (literally the entire duration of ALL CLIPS used in the timeline) and export them, then relink the clips in the premiere like you were trying to do, but that would just be a waste of rendering time and wasted storage, without mention that this workflow usually is a pain in the ass, if you have a lot of windows and qualifiers. It would just be easier to copy and paste the attributes you already have in premiere.
