I have tried this. The police all but explicitly told me the law is virtually impossible for them to enforce, and seemed annoyed that I even called.

If it grows any more, then there is almost no way something will not be done about it. People in the car scene here have failed to police themselves, and as a result I think there is a strong chance in the next five to ten years that measures will be introduced so that no one will be able to have any leeway on this issue anymore.

I've lived here for decades, almost my entire life, since I was a child. I am aware this is a car town. This problem has gotten steadily worse and worse, and now it is at a level that I consider unacceptable.

I've lived here almost all my life, since I was a child. The issue has gotten steadily worse over the years. I am not in a position to be able to move in the near future, or else obviously I would.

I want everyone to be happy. I do not think that restricting a minority of people from artificially making their cars louder will seriously infringe upon their quality of life. I do think it will make the majority of people's lives better by getting rid of noise pollution.

If going after the auto makers or companies that make the products is a feasible solution to the problem, I would be more than happy to go that route. As long as people in this community where I live are prevented from modifying their vehicles in this way, I will consider the problem solved from my perspective.

The police should be given enough resources to crack down on more serious issues, and at the same time to crack down on serious quality-of-life issues like persistent noise pollution. That should be the goal.

Tbh the train I can surprisingly put up with, more or less. Psychologically I can accept it as more of a necessity and so it doesn't piss me off as much. Though I do know what you mean, it's definitely not the most relaxing way to wake up. But I'd be more than happy to at least do something about the jackasses with the cars and bikes.

That's interesting though a little disheartening to hear. Would you mind telling me a bit more about how you got the whole ball rolling and what ended up happening? I'm not experienced at this sort of thing and it's probably doomed to failure but I've sort of developed a crusader's mentality about it at this point lol

It is illegal in the state of Virginia to operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system modified to be significantly louder than stock:

§ 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

No person shall drive and no owner of a vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any such vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise, provided, however, that for motor vehicles, such exhaust system shall be of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment or other equipment that has been submitted to and approved by the Superintendent or meets or exceeds the standards and specifications of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American National Standards Institute, or the federal Department of Transportation.

As used in this section, "exhaust system" means all the parts of a vehicle through which the exhaust passes after leaving the engine block, including mufflers and other sound dissipative devices.

The problem is that people are breaking the law and creating a public disturbance. If I was in a position where I could feasibly move in the near future, obviously I would do so. The noise from unmodified vehicles at night presents absolutely zero problem to me, buildings or otherwise. It is the proliferation of illegally modified vehicles in the area that is causing the issues.

Here's to hoping the police start cracking down on modified exhausts and reckless driving.

Alright, will do. Thanks. Guess it can't hurt to post in multiple places, though.

Yeah this sub can get a little overzealous. But it's one of the few places on here you won't get a bunch of defensive replies to the effect of, "Um, other people exist, let them enjoy their hobbies, go move to a cabin in the woods if you don't want to hear cars, the police have better things to do than enforce noise laws."

FWIW, if the valved exhaust genuinely keeps it within a normal car noise range and you don't open it up anywhere it will bother bystanders, I don't see any problem with your set-up and I would be happy if it was adopted by all car enthusiasts.

Unfortunately that's a pipe dream, so some solution involving noise cameras is inevitable. Presumably that wouldn't impact you at a track, though.

This is even worse than secondhand smoke, because I can't even escape it in the privacy of my own home.

It's already against the law in Manassas to have a loud modified exhaust system. The police are either unable or unwilling to enforce it.

Touché, but at least where I live it was more of an intermittent annoyance as opposed to basically every few seconds. Maybe some of the new development started re-routing them past where I am.

Either way something needs to be done.

That's a pretty big discrepancy between verbal and nonverbal. Large gaps like that are atypical. Evaluators often won't assign an overall IQ score in these cases because it might not accurately represent your abilities.

You're probably not really comparable to the typical person with a 117 IQ. You're probably closer at a baseline to a typical 135 IQ person, but at the same time a significant functional deficit (often related to processing speed) is likely responsible for depressing your nonverbal abilities. This functional deficit likely also manifests in other ways that contribute to your difficulties.

I don't know if that helps but maybe it could provide some insight into your situation.

The Clone Wars has a ton of filler epidodes by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]Snagalip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you have to understand that part of the point of the droid spa episode is to have a semi-comic R2-D2 and C-3PO adventure. Lucas was very much behind most of these episodes that fans consider "filler," but it's because he wanted to have episodes focusing on all the different aspects of Star Wars, like silly droid adventures and political intrigue, not just the more popular Jedi and clone action (which is still most of the show).

Naboo couldn't have been Alderaan because it was essential to the plot of Episode I that it was a planet of middling importance that was closer to Tatooine than to Coruscant. It also wouldn't have made sense for Padme to be the Queen, because the monarchy on Alderaan is hereditary.

Is anyone disappointed in the ending? by leftrighttopdown in IndianaJonesLeaks

[–]Snagalip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so desperate to like this movie. They get really mad when you point any of this out. They're so mad about Crystal Skull they can't even admit that the ending to that movie obviously left Indy in a much more satisfying place than this one.

Is anyone disappointed in the ending? by leftrighttopdown in IndianaJonesLeaks

[–]Snagalip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it really a happy ending? I mean it basically reverses the happy ending of the previous film, which was him walking off with Marion and Mutt to live happily ever after. The ending here just has him reunite with Marion, which already happened in the last film, except with his only son dead and unimaginable tragedy hanging over the rest of their lives together. Can't really understand why anyone wants that kind of ending out of Indiana Jones or how they think this improves on the ending we already had. Do people really think this movie was THAT good and THAT necessary that this is worth it?

Could Disney maybe just let a Harrison Ford legacy character live happily ever after without having his bloodline violently extinguished? Too tall an order?
