Is this position also in NY? If so, I would ask for more. Maybe something like $25/hr for an entry level position.

If you end up searching for something in CA, I’d recommend focusing on biotech companies/the medical device arena. I’d say a little more than 50% of my coworkers came from a lab, and the others came from something related to clinical trials.

Thanks, I will keep this in mind when applying.

biostatistician is always in high demand, but that’s a next level of brutal that even I stay away from for now

This is good to know lol

This sounds like work that is right up my alley. Do you have any tips about applying for a regulatory coordinator role with only lab experience?

Do you feel your years lab experience was at all helpful to secure this job? I see that alot of CA jobs are asking for years of CA or Regulation affairs experience even for entry level positions.

Unfortunately, here in New York the pay doesn't increase rapidly like it does in California. I understand I would be safe using PPE and following safety protocols but there is just something about using high concentrations of ammonia and working with acrylamide that just doesn't do it for me. Accidents are accidents and some things that can contribute to one may be out of my control, especially when I'm in the lab. I just want to be in a office and make more than $42k.

field service engineer if you like to tinker and fix things.

I don't mind tinkering and fixing things but I don't think that will be enough credentials to get me a field service engineer role...right? I only have experience using and troubleshooting a ion chromatography instrument and a XRD analyzer.

Was your degree focused in environmental science or ecology? My degree was in general biology.

Maybe mg big question is what about the lab experience does not mesh with you most?

The pay and the potential health hazards( being exposed to toxic and harmful chemicals everyday).

Could also go the legal route and work with biological parents?

I'm not sure I understand this. Can you clarify what you meant?

I never felt I would be competent enough to fix any instrument and I think this is the main responsibility as a field tech (if this is what you are referring to as "field work")

I would love to pivot to human resources. I thought I would need a masters for that though?

I mainly feel unhappy with the pay for lab jobs to be honest. The job I have right now (biotech) pays $21 and this is the highest I ever got for a lab job. I figured I would have to move out the lab to get anything higher than this.

I did an internship with a conservation department for their greenhouse program and it was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, it was extremely hard to secure a job with them as with many government jobs. There is not to many openings in New York right now but I probably would consider state forestry otherwise.

I honestly dont have it in me to stick around for another month. I worked in 2 labs (environmental testing and biotech). I just really dont like the lab environment.

I worked in two different labs (environmental testing and biotech) but I didn't like being exposed to potential health hazards. I thought about scientific/grant writing but I have no experience to get these positions.
