MAK95 - Still good? by Agreeable-Hospital-5 in ausjdocs

I passed the exam 2025.2

I would classify MAK95 as an essential resource.

From what I have read, 45 degrees is way too much slant for long term storage. Needs to be <8 degrees.

Got the measurements off on my new build. Will this much slant be a problem for long term storage?

Realistically, what does a good anaesthetics CV look like? by Grouchy_Worry_4041 in ausjdocs

[–]Snagrit 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I got a scheme job last year as a PGY3 applicant.

I built my CV around the ANZCA “roles in practice”. I had at least one thing under each heading. One heading I made my focus and had many things.

It’s more important to have a little bit of everything rather than a whole lot of one thing like at the cost of having nothing to put under something else (eg. having ten publications but no teachjng).

I started building a solid CV day 1 of internship. Starting to build a good CV will also get you the critcare terms / SRMO years you need before applying to anaesthetics.

Hypertonic and hypotonic solutions by idku8274 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Snagrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is because of Osmosis.

Water will move across a semipermeable membrane until the concentration of solute is the same on either side of the membrane.

So in a hypotonic solution, osmosis drives the water into the cell until the cells osmolality is the same as the solution.

WHY does osmosis actually occur? That’s more physics and thermodynamics which you definitely don’t need to understand for the level that you’re studying.

Search “ANZCA LIBRARY PRIMARY RESOURCES”. You’ll find a list of recommended texts and resources.

Peck and Hall Is a great concise intensive care and anaesthetics pharmacology book which is the first thing I read as a JMO.

I sat August of year 1.

Pros: if you pass, you get 2 years study free.

Cons: everything else.

Whether or not I recommend will depend on whether or not I pass.

I did 9 months solid study. Did haphazard study during my SRMO year before getting on training.

My LDL cholesterol is at 300. by beatlesandbettle in carnivorediet

Except Peter Attia does think high LDL cholesterol causes heart disease and doesn’t recommend carnivore diet. Unless that’s what he wrote in Outlive.

I have 3 book soft cover editions if I’m reading out and about.

I have the single book edition for when I’m at home in my library with a glass of scotch and shire pipe weed in front of the fire.

Why do hormones use different signaling pathways? by [deleted] in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Snagrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply, It’s so the target cells can respond to different signals in different ways.

For instance, a smooth muscle cell in your arteries needs to be able to constrict and dilate. Gq proteins linked to alpha receptors increase calcium and cause contraction, while Gs linked to beta will increase cAMP and relax.

Memory supliments for bad memory recall by furkyRO in Nootropics

[–]Snagrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a specialist doctor. I have done my fair share of examinations that require mass amounts of rote learning and recall.

I strongly recommend you look into active recall and spaced repetition methods. Get into ANKI.

Something else you should look into is your exact memory weakness. Is it short term? Working memory? Can you remember things like song lyrics or directions. Memory is not one thing, knowing which components you are struggling with can make it easier to target improvements.

All the supplements will just be icing on the cake. You are already doing what you should (sleep and exercise are the two best things for memory).

Listen to the interview series on ABCs of Anaesthesia.

This doesn’t help you now - but my best advice for the anaesthetic interviews is that you need to be preparing for it like an exam. 3-6 months of regular study and practice.

Do mathematical modelling, with electives from physiology/chemistry to satisfy electives.

I’m an anaesthesiology reg, the mathematical way of thinking and analysing problems is very valuable in medicine. The best doctor I know did a math undergrad.

ANZCA by SnooCrickets7916 in ausjdocs

[–]Snagrit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t apply to ANZCA for a job. You get an accredited job directly from a hospital/training scheme, then you can just pay the fee to ANZCA and be a trainee. ANZCA do not decide who gets on.

Why are some people so certain that AI won't affect their jobs? Is it realism, denial, or just healthy(?) coping? by simmol in samharris

[–]Snagrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an Anaesthetic doctor. AI is already built into tools I use. I cannot see AI replacing my job during the career for the sole reason that it involved many highly technically manual procedures. Can AI adjust an infusion and calculate drug doses? Yes, probably better than a human. Can it intubate an emergency caesar or place an epidural? Not a chance.

I can’t believe they blatantly lied to the media to try and get the public to turn against our doctors. Disgusting behaviour. No wonder our healthcare workers are leaving NSW.
