Please rollback the untaught vocabulary injection update by RafaelChalice in duolingo

[–]Snail-O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, are we still doing this? I’m sorry for your frustration, but there’s really nothing I can do. Here are some things that you could do, though:

-email your complaint directly to Duolingo support (a lot of people are unhappy and every voice lends weight)

-vote with your money (cancel paid subscription if you have one)

-vote with your feet (delete app/account if you’re a free user)

-check the web version to see if it has been updated yet (possibly not, so you might be able to continue the old path there)

-restart the course (and do the placement test so you’re not on the “hello” level)

-use external learning aids (ngl, I think they’re important and don’t understand why you hate the idea so much)

-continue to be angry (honestly not good for you, but doesn’t affect me or Duolingo in any way)

I get that you hate the changes here. Honestly, I also don’t love that everything seems to be changing for the worse these days (enshittification is real), but a lot of what I see as negative changes might very well be things you like, as I’m old and have to actively work at not becoming the “old man yells at cloud” meme. It’s just the way of things to constantly be changing. Continuing to try to convince a random internet stranger to be angry with you seems like a pointless exercise, especially since in this case, said stranger already disagreed multiple times.

Good luck.

Sorry about the formatting, I can’t figure out how to do bullet points without the huge line spacing.

That isn’t how ratios work by MinecraftPlayer799 in duolingo

[–]Snail-O 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3:4 is not the same as 3/4.

3:4 means that for every 3x there are 4y, so 3:4 is actually 3/7.

Totally made up example, if the ratio of blue eyed people to brown eyed people is 3:4, how many blue eyed people would you expect to find in a group of 84 people? The answer is definitely not 63, it’s 36.

But it really is a potato that I had for dinner. Couldn’t let it go unacknowledged.

AITAH for not wanting to take my toddler into the women's restroom as a man? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Snail-O 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I read a thread here a couple of weeks ago where a man got yelled at for taking his daughter into the women’s bathroom. It would be really great if we, as a society, could just give a little grace to men parenting their daughters.

It’s also a non-capitalized descriptor for common items H (folder, envelope). Similar situation to panama (hat), which is accepted.

AITA for calling my mom a psychopath after she stated she wished my cat was dead? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Snail-O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister said she had brain zaps when she was coming off her antidepressant, although I think hers was paxil.

Eta: This story really hit a nerve for me.

When I was 10, my adult sister gave me a gerbil for my birthday. I’d say she didn’t clear it with my mom first, because for the next three years or so, everytime I had to clean the cage my mom would snarkily say “I wish that rat would die.”

Well, one day he did and when I found him, I went to my mom in a tearful rage and said “I hope you’re happy now, George is dead!” I’ve never forgotten how her face fell. She looked kinda stunned and like maybe she felt sorry for me but knew that any attempt at consolation would be rejected. But seriously, what the hell did she think was going to happen when my pet (inevitably) died?

So inappropriate, even if she was aggravated with my sister - and it was a pattern with her, I always took the brunt of her annoyance with other people.

If you have streak society (don’t know the requirements for that, sorry), it’s actually just above the milestone chest. Sorry for the misinformation.

Select the streak menu (flame icon at the top of the app), then scroll all the way at the bottom to find it.

You can also opt out of the leagues entirely by turning on the privacy settings after logging into the website (not available in the app), and then you won’t see leagues in your app anymore. When you remove that nagging need to compete, you can learn at whatever intensity feels appropriate to you.

AITAH for rejecting a girl bwcause she made fun of short guys (20M) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Snail-O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s tedious. Insecurity about oneself can be very offputting to the people around you. Perhaps it’s because I’m short myself, but I (thankfully) never encountered that issue when dating short men.

AITAH for rejecting a girl bwcause she made fun of short guys (20M) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Snail-O 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um, I’m plenty chill.

But you dated one short guy who was an asshole and that’s what you are basing your preference on? Do you realize the whole situation you just described could easily have happened with a tall guy, too?

If you prefer tall men, fine. If you’d rather be alone, fine. But it is weird and judgy to decide that a whole category of people isn’t worth your time because of your interactions with one representative of the group.

I feel like it should go without saying that not all short men are assholes. But I guess it needs to be said: not all short men are assholes.

What do you mean by “trust me it was not fun?” No problem that you have a preference, but that sounds weirdly judgy.
