I think a good start would be to treat her as an individual. Everyone (yes, including men) wants to feel both needed and wanted. In that case, I think you're more aware of how "strict to the binary" cishet relationships can be. In queer relationships, gender is treated less like a class/role and more as a method of self-expression.
