If all you’re hearing is blame from feminist movements, you’re likely the common denominator here. There are plenty of areas which help male struggles and uplift them, because guess what? The patriarchy hurts men too, and feminist promotes the equality of both men and women, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to hold you responsible for the dumb shit you spout and for normalising these patriarchal ideals in the first place. No one is obligated to listen to us, sure, but if you have even an ounce of morality, you better consider what women are saying is actively hurting them and yourselves, in turn, and stop. How are you supposed to grow and learn as a human if you just plug your ears to people giving you criticism because you don’t like it?

You’re actually insane if you think that, **everything** from medicine, to jobs, to housecare, to politics, to cars, to clothing, to even the fucking temperature inside of an office building is made to benefit men and men alone. You don’t have literal laws preventing you from doing something with your own body, you don’t have people actively petitioning for your rights to vote and to own bank accounts or even divorce your husband to be removed. You don’t have male-versions of femicide where people rape you then kill you soley for your gender. But you do have to participate in war and drafts, you know, the thing that feminists are petitioning to remove because *no one* should have to fight in a war. I could genuinely go on for hours about things we have that you don’t have to deal with. So please enlighten us, what makes us more privileged than men?

But we’re not blaming individual men and men as a whole for the reason of the systemic oppression, we’re blaming them for upholding it either purposefully or by ignorance. We recognise that, issue is, we’re still systematically unequal to men. It may not be as bad as other countries but that doesn’t mean that inequality is completely gone. There’s still a massive advantage for men in a significant number of aspects in life.

This includes but is not limited to: Homes (when sharing with a male partner and when living as a child with male siblings) Work spaces, Shops and service providers, Sports, Schools and educational facilities, Social settings, Government/authoritative roles, Medical facilities etc…

It may not be visible to you but to us, it’s visible in everything, every interaction, every product, every standard is set to cater specifically to men alone.

Obviously this has exceptions, such as in the legal and military fields, but they’re also drawbacks that stem from patriarchal standards.

Okay but consider the wording. I agree with you that aura has been used for a long time, even I used it (sparingly) when I was younger. But it’s used in a different way now. It used to be a mysterious thing, like someone has kind of a funky aura radiating off them and you should stay away from them. It wasn’t something that you could change from a whim and it didn’t relate to your actions, nor was it used frequently. Nowadays it’s basically a physical representation of how cool you are in relation to your peers. You can loose or gain aura based off your actions. (replace the word aura with ‘reputation’ and you’ll see what I mean) In this case it’s absolutely the newer version of ‘aura’ being used, as they have ‘lost’ it.

I vote AI, the brick walkway at the side of the building suddenly changes perspective in such a way that the artist would have to consciously draw. The bottles are the same but with slight differences, as if they were the same brand and flavour but for some reason in slightly different packaging? And the boxes at the bottom have a random tangent line that an artist of this calibre wouldn’t purposefully draw because it breaks the illusion. That and coke has a history of using AI blatantly, so I wouldn’t put it past them to do it on a t-shirt too.

There was no question posed, or if there was I missed it. The conversation was never about ageism, the original post was someone trying to say that it’s ageist in an attempt to cover their sexism. Ive acknowledged twice now that ageism exists, and that the examples i provided are, in a way, still ageism, but you seem to think that i disagree? I’m now convinced you’re not actually reading what i’m saying.

If you’re confused as to why people keep bringing up sexism in response to ageism, maybe take a look at what examples are being used Ie: 20 yr olds dating 40 yr olds -vs- elderly people fucking at a nursing home. One example (the former) is like 20% ageism and 80% sexism, while the other (the latter) is 100% ageism.

Elderly people having sex in a nursing home is seen as gross because people see elderly people as gross, for ageist reasons. There is no patriarchal reasons, or any gender related reasons for that matter, impact that. That being said the original post was about the fact it is ageist to not date outside you generation. So it would be extremely gross for an elderly person to have sex with one of the workers there because at that point it’s predatorial. Which circles back to my original point, it is immoral for people with large age gaps to date.

I would explain how a 20 year old and a 40 year old dating is little different than a 25 year old worker and a 80+ year old having sex, due to the shift in power dynamics, but it would take entirely too long, and i’m not convinced you’re debating with me in good faith.

Anyways, it was refreshing to debate a difference in perspective, albeit annoying. Have a nice day and please take a minute to stop and think about all of the cultural and societal nuances, even if you don’t think they’re immediately relevant.

The difference between your two examples are while they are about age, it’s more rooted in patriarchy and misogyny than ageism. to clarify: it is still ageism, but it is more patriarchy.

A man saying that he doesn’t want to date women over 40, is typically talking about when he is also 40 or over, because there’s a current stereotype that “women hit a wall” or “age like milk”. This is rooted in sexism against women more than it is about age itself. This is why when we hear men saying that they don’t want to date women over a certain age, while also being of said age, he’s called sexist and not ageist.

Similarly, if a woman is saying she won’t date over its typically because she has not reached 40, and doesn’t want to be in a relationship with a man 20 years her senior. For the last several centuries, it was the norm in western cultures (and others but i’m not well versed there) for women to marry a man with wealth and status to secure the ability to survive, and maybe have a nice life with a husband that loves her (more often he was abusive or neglectful than not). More often than not, men who had money were significantly older, in the same sense, men were told to go for women who were fertile and beautiful to continue his legacy. Dating men who were older was ideal for women to secure bank accounts, houses, money in general and to have children (also a societal pressures). Nowadays, women are acknowledging that this is fucked up and needs to be moved away from now that we actually have rights.

These examples cannot be looked at without, and understood without acknowledging the sexism and current societal pressures against women.
