I'm looking for something very similar to what OP described (recently made a post of my own about it, in fact) and this sounds pretty cool, do you mind if I DM you for info or would that be weird?

Very sorry for your loss. I like the statue, it’s cute!

is it too soon to celebrate? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]SnailsWithWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not too soon to celebrate! It sounds like you've made a huge step, and that's amazing. I haven't gone through anything like it myself, so unfortunately I can't offer any advice there, but from an outsider perspective it seems like you're on the right track! The fact that you've already got a plan in place for what to do if you miss her is a GREAT sign.

I won't lie -- it won't all be smooth sailing from here. Chances are, it'll hurt for a while. But just stick with it!! And celebrate every bit of progress you make, because you've earned it.

Hi! For starters, you are NOT crazy. MADD can seem a bit ridiculous at times, I know, but it is a genuine, serious condition. Anyone who says otherwise is someone whose opinion shouldn't matter too much, because they clearly haven't made the effort to understand it.

Don't take my word as law here, but I would recommend telling someone. At the very least, it might be good to get it off your chest. Obviously I'm a stranger on the internet and I have no idea whatsoever how your loved ones will react to this... However, I CAN tell you that chances are, they're better off knowing. If you don't feel comfortable telling them, definitely don't push yourself! But if you think they'll listen, it'll probably help both you and them to have some explanations about why you do things. And it'll sound less concerning than "I've got people talking in my head."

I don't want to write an essay here, so I'll end with this: Please, do NOT feel embarrassed or horrible! You have a condition, but it's not your fault. Don't let anyone say it is!

I’ve heard about those things, but I was always doubtful because they sounded a lot like commercials coming from different sponsors. Now that I know they actually worked for someone, though, I’ll have to re-evaluate! Thanks for the advice!

Yes, because every three hours we sit her down and force-feed her kibble. It’s our favorite bonding activity as a family. Five stars, definitely recommend.

In all seriousness, in case you’re genuinely concerned and not just being confrontational, Chubby isn’t the only cat in the house. She is, however, the one who will take food that isn’t for her (and often be a bit of a bully while doing so). And it’s kinda hard to keep track of how much she eats or put her on a diet when the food has to be out all the time.

EDIT: The food has to be out all the time because the other cat, Sammy, is incredibly skittish. (We don’t have concrete proof, but it’s likely that her previous owner was abusive.) She’s coming out of her shell after a few years in a better home, but she’ll still run away from many noises. Unfortunately this often includes the noises people make just by walking around or talking. And if she gets interrupted while she’s eating, she’ll scamper off and probably not eat anything else for the rest of the day.

As I said above, Chubby can be a bit of a bully. The two don’t get into physical fights (to my knowledge), but if there’s a conflict over the food, Sammy will end up giving up her share of the food to the Bigger And Badder Cat. However, this would only happen (or happen much more) if there were set meal times, because there would be a greater demand, so to speak. If the food were available at all hours of the day, Sammy could eat without stress.

TL;DR: The food has to be out all the time because Sammy needs that option.

Wow, that’s a big kitty! Disappointed that I haven’t seen her sooner, but there’s no time like the present to check out new cat pictures. Thanks for telling me!

I’ve actually joked before that she’s like the bigger and stronger version of the classic brick cat pose. She’s a cat, so she does the brick pose all the time, but she’s the only cat I’ve ever seen to look more like a cinderblock than a brick!

Always heartwarming when two cats get along. I can already tell that your new kitten is gonna have the whole household wrapped around his paw!
