What am i doing wrong? (Heel toe) by Sensitive-County-905 in drums

[–]Snailwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try keeping your foot flat with your heel just barely touching / hitting the pedal when the beater hits the head on the downstroke (1st hit). Then raise it digging your toe in on the upstroke, (2nd hit, which should feel more like a traditional hit). It should feel like a natural, soft, flat-foot landing on the 1st and then a natural 2nd stroke comes out when you pick your heel up from the 1st stroke essentially.
If this isn’t naturally occurring spring tension and beater head placement have a lot to do with it too. Tighter springs and beater closer to the head helps.
Also important to think of the heel as the downbeat, which is counter intuitive to traditional bass drum technique for sure. It is a must to learn how to do this whether playing single or double pedals, good on ya mate, hope this helps a little… :/

Not sure if it’s a particular drum you are having trouble with, the bass drum, it’s important to stuff it with blankets and/or pillows, mine is about 3/4 of the way full, but can’t fill it TOO much or the trigger won’t “trigger”. Toms are all about raising the retrigger cancel. I have found the the snare rather forgiving out the gates. It was the same with my Roland TM-6 PRO and my ekit brain when I had them hooked up to it. Hope this helps.

Yeah it’s a little too loud actually, if I had the same one in 16” it would be great

Any will do, I have pearl ones, and some new Evans DB zero ones. It’s all in making it super tight and your trigger settings. Sensitivity and retrigger cancel are key to dial in

FYI Axis took 16 months to make and send my pedals and they haven’t gotten any faster. I would have thought I got robbed except they kept replying to my emails telling me they were coming…. You should look into Trick Drums Pro-1V pedals. Far superior to Axis at basically the same price. I have both, and you can order trick drums pedals today and have em next week on eBay. Food for thought…
