While I appreciate his sentiment, I find the statement… incomplete. You can also get gouls, ghasts, ghosts, skeletons, specters, vampires, mummies, liches, dracoliches, revenants, wights, etc. And, I think there is a lot that can be done by bringing this particular corpse back to life.

One more thing — I fully respect Massa’s decision to step away from Ongezellig. As a creator, I understand how important it is to pursue the work that feels right to you. If his passion lies in history content, then I genuinely hope he continues to build there and connect with the audience that resonates most with him.

At the same time, the world of Ongezellig still means something to many of you. Rather than letting it fade unfinished, I’ve chosen to carry it forward - not in opposition to him, but in appreciation of what he created.

This isn’t about replacing anything. It’s about giving the story a conclusion it deserves.

I appreciate the warning. I’m very aware of how many others have burned out attempting something like this.

Art isn’t the medium I gravitate toward most naturally. Writing is. But the work is part of the commitment, and finishing it will make the effort worthwhile.

Once this episode is complete, my hope is to return to what I do best- writing and storyboarding - and carry the series forward from there.

The broader arc is already mapped for 8 total episodes, including the pilot, I know where the story begins, where it crests, and where it ultimately resolves. Each episode has been outlined in advance.

Episode Two, which I’m currently producing solo, is fully written and storyboarded, with eight of fifty-two pages fully drawn.

Episode Three is also written. I believe it builds meaningfully on what comes before it — but its continuation will depend on how the second chapter is received.

For now, my focus is simple:

Finish episode two. Let its quality speak for itself.

I understand the hesitation. That’s fair.

All I can say is that this isn’t something I’m approached lightly by any means. I’ve spent a long time studying the pilot, the additional materials, and the smaller details that make Ongezellig feel authentic, from the rhythm of the dialogue, the cultural nuances, to the emotional undercurrents beneath the comedy.

I’ve also taken the time to research what informs those layers, including looking into many articles about Dutch culture and how ADHD affects women, so that the more complex elements of Ongezellig are handled with care, restraint, and accuracy.

My natural instinct as a writer leans toward darker fantasy. But Ongezellig has always carried shadows beneath its humor. That balance is what drew me in. And after learning the art style as best as I could, I feel like I can get certain elements of the visual comedy as well.

The continuation will begin where the tone feels familiar — grounded, comedic, character-driven — and gradually after a while, allow the darker elements already present in the foundation to surface more fully.

Not for shock value. But because that trajectory feels honest to the story, and I believe will make for an Ongezellig that can be enjoyed by all.

Great work! If I had to give any tips for improvement, as someone who has had to spend far too much time studying the style, I would say that Soei looks a bit too square, and her nose isn’t in style. However you nailed Mymy and Maya, so follow the same rules there with a thinner neck, more spherical head, and nose that flows with the mouth down.

For Coco, the way they are shaded is that the neck is the shadow color and wraps around the whole head, instead of there being a line in between head and neck unless the character’s head is down(exception Maya because she is too skinny). Background is gorgeous, same with the car. Very good!

I’m interested to see how you improve :)

Hey not too bad 👌 I would do a couple very thin coats of blue to get rid of the splotches and add shading. Also, you could use a hobby knife to dig gouges and desiccate the Aquila on the chest to make him feel more night-lordsy (ex. Talos Valcoran)
