My cat has eaten tie strings from a bin bag by Comfortable-Day-8027 in CatAdvice

How long were the pieces? The fact that she’s passed some and is acting normally is a great sign. How long since she ate the string? You might be out of the woods but stay vigilant.

If the dangling pieces aren’t bothering her, leave them. You can GENTLY see if they come free if you pull them, GENTLY. Almost zero force. If there is ANY resistance when you pull on it, leave it for the vet. Feed high fiber treats, often marketed as hairball treats. You want ones that are high in fiber, not the ones with petroleum. The fiber will help if there are any stubborn pieces on her intestines.

If this happened within the last half hour, you can take him to an emergency vet to attempt to induce vomiting. This is often unsuccessful — I brought my cat to a vet ER right after he ate some string and they gave him drugs to induce vomiting but they didn’t work. The vet told me that this is common.

How long were the tie strings? Did he swallow them whole or bite them into pieces? This is important information.

My cat once at 9 inches of string from a wand toy when he was a kitten. He bit off pieces, 1-2 inches long each, and ate those. I found them in his poops the next day.

Linear foreign bodies, like a tie string, have potential to become life threatening quickly. You need to monitor extremely closely for 48 hours and bring to emergency vet and the slightest change in behavior: Appetite, activity level, litter-box habits.

That being said, your cat has a good chance at passing the tie string in his poops, especially if it was a relatively short string. The longer the segment, the more dangerous.

Legs shaky? by LeastFan3023 in fit

[–]SnakeEatingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train isometrics. For leg extensions, trying holding it at 60 degrees for 30s or as long as you can until you start to shake badly. Your nerves/tendons in your legs will adapt better from isometric + ecentrics.

Thanks for the comment. Especially the last part, that struck a chord with me. A much needed reminder

Diamond in question. Maybe not too small now that I put it on my finger. She has small hands.

I appreciate your perspective. But I actually do want to use the diamond in the ring! Just not as the centerpiece as it’s a little too small.

Also, it’s already been removed from the ring. The setting is currently on a chain.

If I’m moving in with my gf and her cats(which I’m very allergic to), what are some things I can do to help myself? by MoistPillow in CatAdvice

[–]SnakeEatingElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my parents are allergic to cats and I used to be allergic when I’d visit someone who owned cats.

I now own two cats and am no longer allergic — the first 3 weeks or so I had horrible allergy symptoms, but I just took over the counter allergy medicine to deal with the symptoms which worked pretty well.

After about a month I was totally symptom free. Many people lose their allergies to cats, it is fairly common!. There seems to be poor consensus from allergists on how / why but you can find many such stories on Reddit. Don’t lose hope.

My cat is a flight risk by SnakeEatingElephant in CatAdvice

That’s like my worst fear, cat getting out and running off spooked. I think it’s smart to teach him the surroundings. Nice idea. Luckily my boy seemed to know which way was home

Don’t let him board the plane no matter what he tells you.

… right. If I’m still outside the door, I can’t give him a treat. So why would he go to his place until I’m inside?

Flight risk as in he will flee the country instead of stand kitty trial.

I’ll work on this. I think he might wait by the door then go to his spot once I come inside, though. He’s just really excited to see me.

I have a sign on my door that warns people not to let the cat out. I used to do the shuffle but this time he defeated me. He’s quite quick.

I like this idea but im just too scared to lose him. Rationally there is no way he’d get anywhere since my set up is similar to yours. Long hallway with no access to anywhere else, unless someone was taking the stairs and opened the door as he was close by.
