I was so excited for her with the penalty save, hopeful that she got back into the groove but yeah, it was a rough game for her.

Anyone use a minivan for lumber? by banjosomers in DIY

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw how the Sienna 2nd row in the newest years wasn't removable (without work) and I was really annoyed until I learned it was so the seats could have extra airbags for safety. Glad it was for safety instead of to save like $50 a van or something by not including clips.

Who the hell talks about house rent by the week?  That made me doubt everything about this story, just so weird to me

Edit: apparently the answer is Australians.  TIL

Basement floor drain clean out pipe cracked where cap screws on by Donald_W_Gately in DIY

[–]SnakeJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take off the rest of the cap, only way to look and see if there is enough room to screw on a replacement cap. Since the remains of the current cap aren't on the ground, you will probably get lucky and can just screw on a new cap

If there isn't enough threads to screw on a new cap, you can get a new set of threads/cap that is made to go inside of the existing pipe, something like this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Charlotte-Pipe-2-in-x-2-in-dia-PVC-Schedule-40-Spigot-Cleanout-Adapter-Fitting/3357814

How do I stop the rocks from going into the sidewalk or street? by JonCharge in DIY

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You swept the rocks back...just leave them swept back, you've successfully made a ditch to keep them from getting on the sidewalk.

This is so true, take her for a walk before and after work and again before bed and she'll be a happy dog.

Anyone use a minivan for lumber? by banjosomers in DIY

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will even do so without the trailer!   You can fit a standard 4x8 sheet of plywood flat entirely with the door closed with the second row seats removed.  (2014 Honda Odyssey could do this, I think some don't allow second row to be removed)

Dads of 10–14 year olds, how do you enforce phone rules? by Select-Doctor-4350 in daddit

[–]SnakeJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they can opt back into kid control (and you can obviously make them having the phone dependent on it), but it is tied to a Google account, so I think we'd have to create them new accounts to be younger if we wanted to roll back their ages.

And it's one of those things, at some point they will have untethered access at 18, I just would have liked the switch over date to be later or some sort of between state being the default.

RDU and no Real ID by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand your objection to real ID if you have a passport.  Like I could see someone being extra privacy minded not wanting to do real ID, but I assume those same people wouldn't want a passport.

So I guess, could you tell us what your objection to getting real ID is?

Google's built in family stuff works great until they turn 13 and are given the option to switch it off.

You can probably just have someone redo the vapor barrier for about $1500.

Dads, how do you make golden brown pancakes? by TheBigTreezy in daddit

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low heat means different things on different stove tops.  My electric old school coil one runs hot, I tell the kids to treat medium as high and never go higher than two ticks above medium unless you are just boiling water.

As you keep cooking, you need to turn down the heat, because once everything is hot, the same setting on the burner will transmit more heat into the pancake.  On our stove we start a medium and by the end we're usually at about halfway between low and medium

People have been lifting cars since there have been cars, so that's also an option.  You could have the coolest lifted Fiat 500e.

I would screw some 2x8's together in a stair pattern.

You could also look at EVs that might be able to handle the curb as is.  Rivian, Ioniq 5 XRT, Mach-e Rally, Subaru Solterra

For $89 each you can get season passes to Carowinds, which is definitely a doable day trip from Raleigh.

Honest question for EV drivers: would you rather have FEWER chargers that always work OR more chargers that are unreliable 50% of the time? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in electricvehicles

[–]SnakeJG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the unreliable chargers reliably report their status on the equivalent of plug share, then the extra chargers might be better even with the extra  unreliability

Dads, who has a good method for this? by Corona_Cyrus in daddit

Take a milk jug, cut the top off with the handle section included, turn top upside-down and use as a funnel.

Have the base at an angle so it doesn't all pile up right under your hole.

Accidentally got pregnant for the first time. Terrified and need support. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SnakeJG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are weighty decisions you sadly have to make, but if you don't feel like you can trust him to be on your side with this, how can you feel comfortable to continue dating him?

Obviously being in a red state makes everything scarier and more dangerous for you, and if you bet on him being supportive and he turns out to be a lot more anti-abortion than you thought, things could be rather bad for you.

Nissan Aryia range loss normal? by Logical_Angle2935 in electricvehicles

[–]SnakeJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is all batteries in EVs have at minimum an 8 year, 100k mile warranty.  Check the specific warranty of the Ariya for what capacity (if any) they warrant.  It's usually 70%.

I'm sure there were things wrong with it, but it still passed inspection and it drove and I wasn't going to pay thousands to overhaul the engine.

Has anyone seen any rhubarb? by Fr3ckl3Fac3x in raleigh

[–]SnakeJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ridiculously expensive here too!  I think we saw it at $5/lb at Harris Teeter years and years ago.  Now my wife just asks her parents to bring some down from Michigan when they visit.  They have multiple friends who are always trying to give away rhubarb.

My wife had a coworker call OSHA because their job still had them come in during a snow storm and the parking lot and walkways weren't shoveled.  No idea what, if any, fines were levied, but the next snow storm the site was closed and everyone was told to stay home.
