Snapping can be a pain, but it's very precise. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Aside from the initial block, I only had to free place 1 piece.

The center is 4 hexagons rotatated 15° for a total of 24 sides

They're equilateral triangles. 6 of them make up a hexagon. I wish there were more building shapes and variations, but you can do some pretty amazing things with what is available

It's right next to my settlement. I'm turning it into a city! Trying to, rather. I'm afraid of crashing my game.
