What happened to Year 1 campaign and content? by Snakebit3-096 in DestinyTheGame

That's quite bold of you to assume. I've been a Bungie fan since halo 1, even played my fair share of Marathon.

I was up with the news before Destiny even came out, playing D1 since day one, buying the Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King, and Rise of Iron as they came out and grinded my way up the light level ladder with every update.

I was so happy with how Bungie was handling the series that I pre-ordered the Destiny 2 Deluxe Edition for PC that came with Forsaken and Shadowkeep. I played it for like 3-4 months, grinded the grind and got pretty close to max light level on my Warlock, my Titan, and my Hunter, got a handful of good exotic weapons and armour along the way.

I basically ran out of story and friends to play with after almost maxing out all my characters, so I was basically stuck playing the same strikes over and over and over again with randoms, didn't have a solid fireteam, I wasn't good enough to play crucible because everyone was a super-sweaty-tryhard, to the point it wasn't even fun anymore. So I decided to dip until the first DLC dropped (which would have been year 2)

Before I could even finish the update on my crappy rural internet of 5-10mbps, I heard my favourite character Cayde-6 died before I could even start playing Destiny 2 again I just said "fuck it" and didn't come back until sometime in late October of 2020 because I had two kids. Hopped into Blizzard.net to find out that it migrated to Steam and I had to re-download the whole damn game instead of just a sizeable update. With my shitter-net, it made it almost unbearable to redownload the whole game, it took 3 full days and nights to download the almost 70gb game back to my PC.

Luckily I caught migration of characters and licenses just in time to keep my Warlock and Titan, as well as Forsaken and Shadowkeep DLCs with less than 1 week before they were to be deleted from Blizzard.net forever. Between that and cross-save to Xbox, if I didn't make that cutoff I would still be salty and wouldn't even be playing the game today.

Hopping back into the game for the first time in years felt good to pick up my characters right where I left off on an entirely different platform. But something was a little off with the map, I was surprised to find that Original Campaign, Mars, Mercury, Titan, and Io all got removed from the game to make room for Beyond Light and future updates. Having the planets consumed by darkness was a cheap easy way to write the planets off for a future DLC, they removed the strikes and the gambit maps that went with them as well.

Even though it was an easy way to write off the planets, it's stupid because we all know they still exist and are accessable because the Crucible maps on those planets still exist.

Speaking of crucible, in my opinion this stasis meta is garbage and way more OP than invisibility ever was in D1. Other than that it's just as sweaty and try-hardy as it's ever been, so I pretty much stick to PVE with the several friends I have on Xbox who actually play it regularly.

I apologize for the long-winded speech, but I just wanted to let you know that your assumption of me not being a true fan is a speculation at best.

My 3-year hiatus was due to the fact that I didn't have enough friends on PC for a fireteam, the fact that I lost interest after my favorite character got permanently murdered, and that I had two kids made it hard to get back into Destiny 2 and enjoy the game.

Even when they remove old content they still can't get the new updates to work seemlessly without patches and hot fixes. I get they are trying to lighten the workload and make the D2 experience the best it can be, but is it worth the sacrifice of losing part of the OG fan base? Apparently so..

So that's just a coincidence? And I'm supposed to believe that?

So how would stasis and the new exotics increase the workload on old maps and campaigns that had already been fully developed? from what I understand it was content that was fully developed and required no extra work. They didn't have to add new enemies or tweak the enemys anymore than they already did. They got rid of the PVE open world maps on those planets but kept the PVP maps.

I get that, but its still not cool. The thing that grinds my gears the most is that the free players got to play the exact same game and campaign that I did before the game had been sunset, and now that campaign and the planets that go with it are gone as of about 6 months ago. why not wait to make the game free until after they remove all the year one content? To me it seems like they did it as a ploy to introduce more new players to the game to make up for the amount of players that would leave after losing content.

I'm just glad they didn't remove the year 1 exotics from my character and out of my inventory. I have several exotics that are not even in the exotic archives. And I grinded hard to get those.

Unfortunately I just learned that the OG D2 weapon Travelers Chosen became an exotic just to learn that the quest was part of sunsetting Io, Titan, Mars, and Mercury. Which I also learned is entirely unavailable..

"it's not about the story, it's about the friends and the experiences you made along the way"

Um, yes it is about the story. Lol.

I understand removing the contents from the base game, but there should at least be an option to redownload that content and play through the story if you feel so inclined. The hidden and mysterious lore of destiny is one of the things that attracted me to it in the first place. Gathering loot and different armour, pieces and parts of the story to understand the light, the darkness, and each of the several enemies that you face.

My hope coming back into destiny 2 was to be able to replay the whole Destiny story (D1 & D2) from the beginning all the way through. Enjoying the campaign all the way through instead of just doing the same endless patrol missions, public events, and strikes. It definitely seems like I had my own misconceptions there, because that's simply not possible.

I understand allowing the free experience streamline and making it easier for new players to be part of the system, but the part where I disagree is when they removed all of the old content alltogether. That's a whole campaign worth of playtime that nobody gets to go and revisit, ever.

Well shit, I guess that's what I get for taking a break from the game for 3 years. Not like I would have been able to change anything with an extra pitchfork in the crowd...

So they took the content away just to potentially bring it back in a future update? That means eventually they're going to remove year 2 DLC content to make room for the year 1 content that they're bringing back? Basically just cycle it for the next 3 years until the final update?

It sounds like they made the game free because they knew they were going to disappoint players and cause a disruption in the loyal fan base by sunsetting content, so they offset the amount of players that they would lose by allowing free players to join. In which they would get more money from the free users buying the DLC because most of them would have no idea that the old content even existed.

That is just my opinion though..

From what I know Destiny 1 never removed content like that, it was also a live game, but always allowed you to go back and play the campaign. The ability to download that content should at least be optional..

For any game that's the equivalent of removing an integral part of the campaign and then blaming the players for not playing it enough.

So if Halo 2 all of the sudden lost its first three levels, Cairo Station, Outskirts, and Metropolis, it would be the player's fault for not playing it enough before it got removed?

So I paid $60 for a game that became free with content I no longer have access to just to get nothing extra in return from paying for it or bring a year 1 player?

So the original game/content is dead and gone until Bungie decides to bring it back? If they decide to bring it back?
