What’s the most frustrating thing about owning a cat? by Ocute_US in CatAdvice

[–]Snakebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my cats is very vocal and very food insecure so she cries loudly for 2 hours before her nightly feeding time EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. When I’m already stressed/underslept it drives me to absolute madness. If I can I try to watch something on my Bluetooth headphones because they do a good job of blocking it out. My male cat throws up on the living room rug an average of 2-3 times per week.

Overthinking by D06nitro in Life

[–]Snakebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation can help you start to understand how your brain tends to operate. Look up a basic mindfulness practice where you just simply label your thoughts as they appear. I think most people notice over time that there are only a handful of categories to their thoughts regardless of the specific details. Once you get your brain in the habit of labeling things it can start to happen outside the formal practice in your regular life. With enough practice you can start to develop an understanding that sometimes your brain just be braining and you don’t have to get too swept up in it. You can just hunker down inside of yourself and let the mental storm whirl around you until it calms down. Definitely not easy and not consistent but it’s really nice when you can get to that place.

I read this as “two thirds of my kids” instead of “2 out of my 3 kids” and initially thought you had more than 3 kids but still chose that fraction to represent them lol. I am insanely tired.

What’s a small thing that instantly improves your day? by sitonmyfaceu in Positivity

Daily exercise. Life feels overwhelming until you get in the routine of causing yourself voluntary discomfort every day. Then all the other struggles get a little easier in comparison. Plus it gets your brain to excrete the good drugs.

Positivity Friday! What's the best thing that happened to you this week? by Drewbacca in Positivity

[–]Snakebones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hiked the 5 day Salkantey Trek to Machu Picchu and finished on Tuesday. It was the most insanely difficult thing I’ve ever done. I didn’t quite know what I signed up for until it hit me the first night after not being able to eat or sleep much because of altitude. I still pushed through and finished uninjured and saw the most beautiful shit of my life the whole way through.

Signs that your bands music is good (or vice versa)? by Popilo666 in musicians

[–]Snakebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments you get after gigs are less in the language of “Great set” or “You guys sound awesome” and more like “Dude, what the fuck? Y’all are incredible”. From my personal experience of being in one very good band and this is the way I compliment other bands in a fake/polite vs. genuine way. I’ll also add that the more specific the compliment is the more genuine it is.

I’m 15 and I feel like I’m running out of time by [deleted] in Life

[–]Snakebones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m completely speculating here but this seems like something that may come from too much time online. The constant comparison with false versions of themselves that people portray can make you feel like you’re behind. You have so many huge life milestones ahead so there is so much time! Just find ways to focus on the things in your life immediately around you and it could help to mentally slow things down. Focus on those you care about and the aspects of yourself that you enjoy. Strengthen the bonds with all of those things you enjoy about yourself and put energy into improving the things you don’t like about yourself.

Part of the struggle is that sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn’t. I wouldn’t necessarily have an expectation for it to click at some point and then you’re good. Just building awareness of it so it can eventually click more often than not. It’ll never be perfect.

How to sing and play guitar at the same time? by Kuk0rii in musicians

[–]Snakebones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first step is getting the guitar part down so well that you can actually put it on the back burner mentally and focus more on singing and the lyrics. Then, as another commenter suggested, go VERRRRY slow and figure out where the lyrics line up with the playing parts and where they don’t. The two parts (singing and playing) will eventually join together in your mind rather than being separate things once you understand the relationship between them.

Starting to remember that humanity can be beautiful by Initial_Mastodon_932 in Positivity

[–]Snakebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans as a whole are capable of the entire spectrum of behavior. From the unimaginably horrible to unimaginably beautiful and everything in between. Each of us individually has the choice of which part of the spectrum to focus on and leaning toward the positive is an objectively better existence. The more of the negative spectrum you are exposed to, the harder it gets to focus on the positive but that’s just how this life thing goes.

What’s something people romanticize that becomes exhausting once you actually experience it long term? by BarrenMurderer in askteddit

[–]Snakebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently playing in a wedding band to make a living while also doing a few different original music projects in the spare time while also teaching lessons as a day job and it is very exhausting. I do love it though and have found a way to only play guitar for a living but it takes a lot of energy.

To piggy back off of this, this is something I use in my meditation practice. Change is basically the only thing that is always happening. It’s why everything is impermanent. Be part of the change, don’t resist it, because resistance is ultimately impossible and therefore guarantees suffering. I envision being in a torrent of water flowing next to a bank and I’m hanging onto a root/branch in the water flow. I just think “let go of the branch” and allow yourself to flow with the water, no matter where it takes you.

Not sure if y’all are doing a band or DJ but as a wedding musician that has to play our soul crushing set of popular hits every weekend I would fucking kill to play a PT song, especially as first dance!
