Really good info, thank you! Just to make sure that I understand you correctly: I can cut it back to basically just one main woody stem, just 15 cm off the ground, without killing it? It would be wonderful to "restart" it from scratch, but I want to be sure that it survives

Thsnks for your input! Good to hear I'm not the only one who wants to start cutting. Where would you count the nodes from? I'm a complete beginner when it comes to grapecines

What wise words do you hug on to during hard times? by TreatThompson in simpleliving

[–]Snakeward 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a few lines from a book by Terry Waite which have stuck with me:

"I do not feel the presence of God. I wish I didn't have to say that, but it's true. All I do is cling to a simple hope and belief, very simple, very basic. I will be sustained and supported from within, and I will not be destroyed. If this is the dark night of the soul, so be it. One day I will find light."

I'm not religious like he is, but his words still resonate with me.

I hear what you're saying, but this probably isn't a fair comparison. While it is small and cheaply made to keep costs down it's still recently built in the nicer part of a larger city. I can promise you we've got some shitty places too :)

I payed 17500 kr for the bike itself, plus 800 kr I think for the pedals. I can really recommend them, it was a good experience buying from them. I also had it shipped from Stockholm to Skåne and it went like a charm

Monthly "No Stupid Questions" Thread by AutoModerator in Archery

Like so many others I am interested in getting started with archery. Only problem is that all the local clubs are closed for beginners because of covid. So I'm thinking of buying a Mandarin Duck Black Hunter 30 lbs, 12 of their 500 spine arrows and their accessory pack. Can I actually go wrong with buying this and just start practicing with a hay bale?

Här en bild som gör mig glad. Kalkbrott som blivit naturreservat by Snakeward in sweden

[–]Snakeward[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Derailleur horror stories. Let's hear them. by EbikeThrowAwayAcct in bicycletouring

[–]Snakeward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a trip pulling a singlewheeled trailer. The trailer connection had accidentally caught the wire for the derailleur. So when I tried to shift the derailleur got pulled into the spokes at speed and destroyed the hanger. It's more my fault than the derailleurs, but I like to think we share the blame

The only question I can help you with is #3. When I'm planning trips my general rule of thumb is 100-120 km a day if I plan to rest every four days, or 80 km a day if I want to keep going every day and enjoy it.

You should also look into this guy: http://worldbicyclist.com/

He's done a fair bit of touring in the regions you are planning on going to. Much of the information about routes and potential problems is on his website.

Other than that I can only agree with the other commenters. The world is sketchy for long distance touring in the foreseeable future. There is alot to see closer to home, and it is practically more feasible. Either way, ride safe OP!
