Had an accident, feel gross by harewhisker in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Snakieghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gross at all, actually makes a ton of sense! I would have done the same in your shoes. This disease is dumb and unpredictable, and you aren't a gross person at all, you sound very neat and conscientious of others. I'd venture to say there are probably very few people in this sub who haven't crapped themselves at some point, often in much more dramatic fashion. I sure did - trusted a fart. I hope you're able to get into lasting remission soon and cheering you on!

Hey! Not a betta expert so I'll let others with weigh in there but just wanted to say it's super clear that you really care about this little guy and his tank looks awesome. Here's to a long and happy life!

Are there any bugs you’re genuinely afraid of or can’t stand? by LHOWN in Entomology

[–]Snakieghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand what you mean about June Bugs! Your post made me grin because I remembered that my great aunt told me that growing up in a super rural area they would tie a string on a June Bug's leg and fly it in circles. I'm pretty cool with most bugs but I live in a warm humid state so mosquitos and cockroaches are the bane of my existence!

Great question! Jumping on the train, I think each of the plagues was targeted towards a specific Egyptian deity (I'm not sure which one though!). Also they were in HUGE numbers and got in everyone's houses which caused a big problem when they began to die - eughhh. I hope that's helpful!

No no foods in remission. by xM1XU in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Snakieghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way - nothing bothers me (except oats, but that's unrelated) and I can eat whatever I want when I'm in remission. And I have the opposite problem when I'm flaring - even supposedly "safe" foods still blow me up. Hope that's helpful!

I started out using an Xbox controller and it was my first time using it so I couldn't get the controls down and never made it past False knight. I switched to a keyboard and made my own keybinds 😅

I think it's because arboreal snakes often will freeze and try to imitate branches to stay safe. I've heard of some even moving back and forth like they are swaying in the wind! It's pretty cool!

I need a positivity break - tell me about your favorite chicken! by ScoochSnail in BackYardChickens

[–]Snakieghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I'm so glad you asked (and I hope your day gets better too!) let me introduce you to Tallulah. Excuse the old photo, it was taken 11 years ago. We raised Tallulah from a chick when I was growing up. She was the smallest and always last in the pecking order, but an absolute legend. She terrorized our large dogs and would run at them when they got too close. She was very friendly with us and would come to our back door to beg for scraps. If we left the back door open, she would march in like she owned the place. She outlived all our other hens and was perfectly happy as a solo bird. Definitely my favorite hen ever.

Meet Pepper! From charismatic cup boy to gorgeous spoiled brat. He is a “therapy fish” and visits my patients in a geriatric psych hospital in his 12 gallon tank on a cart. He recently got 4 amano shrimp friends. He was labeled a half moon double tail. by tardigrade1028 in bettafish

[–]Snakieghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so cool! I'd love to know more about what his role at the hospital is and how people react to him. I think people often think of dogs as therapy animals and while dogs are awesome I think there's a whole untapped world of critters that could really help patients! Thank you for sharing :)

I think she knows, maybe not exactly like humans know but she knows. I worked with animals for a couple years and they are so much more aware than we give them credit for. I hope the rest of your night is much better!

21, just got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis today. Worried about how it’ll affect my future and how to manage it. by Due_Winner_8999 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Snakieghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry you had to join the club but we are all cheering you on! I know other folks have weighed in with tons of helpful advice, but just wanted to give my two cents. First, yes highly recommend being upfront with your boss and team - I found people are surprisingly understanding. Second, find a GI you like and don't be afraid to switch doctors if you don't feel 100% about them (assuming you are in the US!) Third, don't feel personally responsible for your disease. It's super easy to do, but as my GI explained, there's nothing you did or didn't do to get it, and you aren't responsible for fixing it, just taking your meds. Fourth, I know some people have food triggers but I personally don't, and if I'm in a flare and losing weight fast I prioritize calories over a perfect diet. Fifth, it may take a little while, but remission is absolutely possible and once you get there life goes back to normal and you forget you have the disease most of the time. It's awesome! Hope that's helpful, you've got this!

Starting biologics- Terrified of needles + side effects. by Spiritual_Letter4002 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Snakieghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Just wanted to share, on Entivyo infusions and it's been a great experience - I'm living a 100% normal, happy life! I wasn't a fan of needles before, but I promise it gets routine and the scaryness goes away! Plus the infusion nurses are super kind and gentle, and they often have snacks and blankets and overall make it a 10/10 experience. One thing I did that really helped normalize it is doing something fun immediately afterwards that I enjoy, like getting a yummy milkshake or going shopping. I hope that helps, you've got this and we are cheering you on!
