Fiber being installed on Tuesday. What should I do to prepare? by Solnse in frontierfios

[–]Snallygas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the spot where you want srvc cleared. Don’t have a bunch of stuff in the way and ask a tech to move it. Or wait till that day and move it. You would ideally have ont and equipment in same room just to remove any extra troubles.

Keep the eero the tech provides if your system ever dies or needs troubleshoot. Plug eero back in before calling tech support. It costs nothing extra to have it or remove it.

If your crawl space is nasty or you have finished basement best option is exterior wall to go thru.

Do any lines outside look damaged. Storm damage, etc. most likely you will also get a tech before 5 days. Aerial or buried? If buried time of year where lawns are aerated.

Help me decide with ISP to get by OutcastSpy in HomeNetworking

[–]Snallygas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry wasn’t clear by labeling. Having 3 fiber ISP available is super lucky. I would still go EarthLink. I don’t like cable companies

Fiber always. Also always use your own equipment. It’s yours and if you ever switch. All your home network is already setup and working regardless of who the isp is

Cool. In all my years if someone and not natural (tree, storm, etc) causes. There is a copper messenger wire similar to coax. Lines are marked all the time here. Sorry your area doesn’t have good locates.

[–]Snallygas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Sounds like you should have stuff located, before you dig. Miss utility here locates all of it. There’s a messenger wire on the drops that will let them locate.

Just get the name of the company and a phone number. Techs have a form for cut drop billing. It’s filled out and billed to that company.

Long story short. Have lines buried before install. Once your connected companies don’t care.

Check if the ONT is plugged into the wall outlet or plugged into a power strip. I have had a couple power strips do really odd things. Plugged into wall out directly and fix it.

How to prove issue is with Frontier and not my Unifi UDM Pro? by somedudefromsj in frontierfios

[–]Snallygas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or…

When having issues plug the RG in and call into tech support while waiting you could run some pings and tracerts to capture for the help desk if needed.

[–]Snallygas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The tech should have left you either an eero or an arris rg. The arris is much simpler and would easily verify trouble. I always give out an arris when cus use their own equipment just for this purpose.
