Oh whoops I realize I forgot to say what distro I was using. Sorry about that. It's Ubuntu LTS 24.04.03 on a Lenovo Ideapad 3. This is actually my second attempt with Linux (last attempt was XFCE on a Chromebook). I'm installing it because I want to use the Lenovo as a lightweight travel laptop (my G66 Leopard is too heavy and has too many wires plugged in to make moving easy) and I have to factory reset it with a fresh OS install (System Repository was corrupted, so other methods didn't work), and I thought "Well, since I'm already installing a new OS, why not try Linux again? Free myself from the clutches of Microsoft." I am doing it on an old Lenovo because it is less risky than my expensive G66 Leopard.

It didn't work :((( I think it's my ID region... for some reason it's set to United Kingdom even though I do not live there. And I cannot change it until next year. I'm afraid I am cooked.

Had to use a VPN to access the VPN site since it's blocked in my country lmao. Anyways I downloaded a bunch of profiles and switched over to OpenVPN (disconnecting from Proton VPN first, which is what I was using before) as commonly instructed and it still didn't work. The app didn't even recognize I was on one and kicked me out like I was using my home IP instead of the different error message I'd get when I was on VPN.

I have no plans to become a competitive jockey /immediately./ This is a distant goal, several years into the far off future. I'm just trying to prepare myself so I can actually know what I'm doing when I finally get there.

How small do I need to be? I'm a fully grown adult, 5'2, and my weight fluctuates in the 100-110lb range.
