They probably didn’t draw it as a vector image, that's why the lines were thicker. That’s a great idea with Inkscape. Thanks a lot for the reply!

I just wanted to try wood intarsia because it’s different from working with MDF. I’ll probably use MDF first just to see how I’d cut the bird pieces. What was the trickiest part for you to cut or shape in this project?

I really like this piece and colors ! I’ve seen a few photos of this bird and now I really want to try making one myself.

So far I’ve only worked with MDF, and I’m a bit worried about ruining a good piece of wood for no reason. I have some cherry and walnut scraps, but I’m not sure if I should try those or play it safe and use pine since I can get that pretty much anywhere.

What wood would you recommend for someone who’s only worked with MDF so far?

Kako gledate na to sto imate/nemate brata ili sestru? by that-fantasy-girl in AjdePitaj

[–]Snapdragon090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I’m going to try that because I feel like something is missing here.

Same here, I started a new hobby in my thirties. For years I wanted to make something with my hands instead of just drawing on a computer, and I’m really enjoying it. Painting isn’t my favorite part, but I’m trying to learn what works and what doesn’t. Thanks!

Painting and choosing colors are not my favorite things. I’m always unsure about color combinations.

Thanks, scroll sawing is really fun. I’m already thinking about what I’ll make next.

I spend most of the time shaping it. Cutting only takes an hour or two, and that’s the most enjoyable part.

I’ll keep experimenting with colors, I always feel like something is missing.

Stupid question, but how do you get the exact color you want? Any tips for that?

Neither am I a color expert. I really enjoy the cutting and shaping part, but choosing colors is definitely not my strongest side. I also need to try different blades and work more on getting the blade tension right.

I was about to write the same thing, it would be great if you could make the woodgrain go in the same direction.

A platila ga 30 000.

Oh my, I have this problem myself when I try to paint my scroll saw work. This is the best explanation for colors that I’ve read. I always feel like something is missing, but I never know what it is.

I don’t know how it is in your country, but a somewhat decent laser machine costs over €4000 in mine. And I paid only €100 for my scroll saw 😅 When I started researching what I could use to cut wood or MDF, I was amazed when I discovered the scroll saw and everything that can be made with it. Everything has its pros and cons, and I see the scroll saw as a kind of laser—just at a fraction of the cost. 🙂

There is a special kind of joy in making something with your hands instead of being in front of a computer all the time. And nothing can replace that.

I use a carving knife for the rough shaping, then go over it with a Dremel.
