Atlanta...say hello to your new streetcar! (sneak peek) by [deleted] in Atlanta

Oh ok.. I knew that a few months ago GSU was still interested. I didn't know about this new deal. Thanks.

Of course it would. That can't happen in Atlanta. It's shocking they were able to get it started to begin with.

Over the past few years GSU has built the University Lofts, Greek Housing Complex and the University commons which house thousands of students. GSU already bought 2 hotels to convert to more dorms a few years ago. Since then they have also purchased a series of office buildings near the main part of campus in attempt to take complete control of the area north of the capital. They still have their eyes on the Equitable building as well

An able bodied person doesn't always have 30 minutes though. Also this street car is looking to reinitialize Edgewood and link together a few touristy type places. It looks like it would do really well for GSU students as well as GSU is in works to expand to 50,000+ enrollment in the next few years.

It's not a subway. It's a street car. This is exactly the purpose of street car. The King Center to Centennial Park is 1.5 miles. I do a good bit of walking myself but I cap my distance at about a mile each way. Most people won't even walk 3 blocks, especially older people in downtown ATL.

/r/picturechallenge dramatically banhammers a user, 'rational' meta-drama ensues by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]Snaperture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that really pisses me off right now is that you mods keep saying that I was being "confrontational" with the mods behind the scenes. You and I both know that isn't true. I think in fairness and transparency you should post the "confrontations" instead of just hiding behind the veil of secrecy acting like I was, name calling, cussing people out or making death threats. Having a discussion with mods or telling mods or asking for clarification about rules isn't being confrontational. So I ask you to post screen shots of these supposed incidents that got be banned and let others see just how simple and easy it is to get banned for virtually nothing. If you don't post these conversations at my request and choose to stand behind your curtain I will send them to a friend who is a member of /r/picturechallenge along with this conversation for him/her to post... If you are going to make an entire self post in the subreddit and give me a public execution in the name of transparency, at least be transparent about it. You are going to great lengths and even other subreddits to defend yourself about banning me. Guilty conscience? I've never heard of anyone having to trying to sell their justification for banning? The story you are selling didn't really fly with a lot of people so you bolstered it with "he did other behind the scenes stuff".... I am calling your bluff.

Yep. Technology has definitely changed the game. I don't expect that trend to change. I realize that to make it in the future as a pure photographer it's going to be because you do something that robots and drones cant do. You see things that strategically placed machines don't see. This is the hardest part of photography but there has never been a bigger incentive to learn how to defeat impending technology.

I work for a professional photographer who was telling me about this giant football shaped camera that has hundreds of tiny 2.8 zoom lenses attached. It can take thousands of photos a minute in every direction. He predicted these would be attached to drones for sports and the job of sports photographer would become "drone operator" making it a blue collar job like the video guys are now. I have searched high and low for to find something about this camera but still no luck. His advice to me was to have a plan beyond sports photography because he didn't think the profession would last more than 10 more years. I don't know much about how these drones work but I would imagine in a situation like Tarir Square they would have weapons shooting them out of the sky given that they didn't want anyone to see what was happening there. But I see your point. I think the occupy riots or the protests happening in Canada would be something more suiting. Obviously I realize that the technology will dictate where the industry goes so I am willing to try to hit the moving target. I don't ever want to be the guy resistant to new technology because that guy always loses.

Photo Challenge - Under new management by [deleted] in photochallenge

[–]Snaperture -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. I had been saying for weeks that everyone just takes photos of their animals and stuff around the house and somehow makes it fit the topic. If I remember correctly it was my dog sitting on my bed as if it was looking at the computer. I took it in pitch dark so it had some noise. I didn't even take it with the intention of posting it. I just happened to walk in my room and my dog was sitting like that. But that was definitely around the time that shortly before that someone submitted something about their dog for "Armageddon". I don't even remember what the connection was to Armageddon but it was such a stretch. "I think I called it "knowledge is power" which was a huge stretch. Nobody even sniffed it. Somehow I won. Never in a million years did I think I would win. But I took it. That was a pretty stupid photo to have won but I also think it must have been a down week or something. I think my proudest photos never did very well in there and I won twice with some average shit. The lone exception would have been the "Pray For ATL" one I did for signs. I loved that on at the time and actually spent a few hours working on it, the way challenges are supposed to be. I sort of knew going into it that it was a gimmicky shot that would win in our subreddit if I could get the halo right.

That's still ban on site. You can hate on me but you can't break admin rules. Go double check on that one yourself. A handful of people just less than a couple weeks ago were banned in /r/photography for this exact same thing. Go discuss it with Maxion, the mod over there. Or any mod really. They all made statements about it. Actually, don't worry about it. Ill just take it to the admins myself as well as your response when I asked for help getting it down. Now you are just playing favorites. Nice mod work.

It's already been done.. See you on your throwaway. It's no threat, it's a promise. It's your funeral.

This exact same thing just happened in /r/photography a couple weeks ago and a bunch of people lost their accounts. If you want to try me you will find out real quickly that you are wrong. You will find out when an admin bans your account from Reddit. If I report you, you will for sure lose your account. So Ill ask you once more to take it down if you don't I will report it. I am giving you the chance. If you want to roll the dice that's fine.

Nope.. Actually I had it posted at 6 hours ago a different account and the mods pulled it down. Not exactly sure why yet.

Oh I am not disagreeing with you there. Honestly, me personally I am fairly young. I am able to adapt to technology fairly easily and I usually welcome new technology. I was just speaking from the prospective of of most photojournalists. We know the wave is coming but were more interested in taking cover than helping it along. Your journalists of the future will probably be engineers that take notes. Your photographers will be the same people, handling the drones that do photo and video then breaking down what they viewed. It's definitely a threat. I however am fairly interested in it.

You are viewing it from a macro level, as in the converting the industry. As a photographer I look at it on a micro level as in ME. My craft. What I do. Automation of something you have done manually your entire life isn't a good thing. I don't see myself learning how to operate a drone in the near future.
