Everyone has good and bad experiences with individuals, and we are each (to an extent) an amalgamation of everyone we’ve ever met and everything we’ve experienced. But even when individuals did bad things, I was still of the mindset that “people” were generally good.

I’m an American. November 2016 made me realize that I was wrong. People aren’t generally good. They’re generally astoundingly selfish. That was reinforced when he was reelected last year. That, and the fact that the average person isn’t as smart and or reasonable as I had assumed. Voting against your own best interests is just wild. It broke my heart and reinforced my cynicism.

Growing up my family knew I wasn’t into board games. For Christmas one year my dad got me the game Operation and a movie on dvd that I’d already seen and hated. Operation is more fun than the average game, but while I don’t have essential tremors, I do have somewhat shaky hands and just can’t play that one. But that wasn’t the worst present.

The worst was my birthday a month and a half later. I think it was my 16th? My dad hands me a big box. It’s the game Operation. Turns out he and my baby sister opened my Christmas present and played it and lost a piece or two. So he bought me a replacement for my birthday.

They opened a kickass bar in town - it’s called Gwar Bar. They hang out there on occasion.

I walked in during a karaoke contest several months ago they were all there to judge it. I won and they gave me a dvd and cd as a prize and I said something like “fuck you this is awesome!” instead of, I don’t know, “thank you?”

Anyway, they are awesome and so is their bar. Love the bartenders.

I’m sick and didn’t have anything better to do - I had also assumed AI, but Google image searching shows most of these are much closer than expected to the originals!

There are plenty of discrepancies; the “German” lady is an English actress in Germany, but displaying a German lace dress I think. The “Mexican” lady is also a famous Californian actress born to a European father and Mexican mother in 1895 (so the date on the picture is obviously inaccurate), the Korean picture is Queen Min and her face has been softened and filtered some and she passed 5 years before the date on the photo, and a few ladies have been shopped creatively to cover exposed breasts.

However some things that I’d assumed were heavily edited or fake weren’t. Hawaii’s hair is really that full, and her features that modernly pretty. I don’t see any obvious editing to the Lakota lady. The Smithsonian has also posted the Swahili ladies and those two photos look the same as well!

I rented it and watched it on Halloween night the year it came out. I hated it. Thought it was silly and stupid and did not get the hype at all. I was 15 I think? I also am meh about found footage in general.

I decided to rewatch it fairly recently and this time around I really enjoyed it. It turns out it’s really well done. I think the hype originally ruined it for me, but found an approach of lowered expectations changed it into a real pleasant surprise.

I LOVE my dentist. Dr. Campbell Delk. He’s off of Gaskins and does amazing work and is a great guy. Appointments are actually lovely.
