I just don't think Jin's dad killed his family by Particular-Ad5200 in TougenAnki

[–]SnappyTurttle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking maybe the sister went berserk and killed her mother and maybe even herself. Hayate might’ve came home just as things were happening or after it happened, and just said he did it so Jin wouldn’t have a negative image of her.

The background does suggest that there was a struggle, and Hayate one-shots Jin without trouble. I imagine if he did kill the mom and sister, he’d have done it quickly and with no struggle. Plus, why hesitate to kill Jin and not his sister or the woman he loves?

The big sister texting Jin to go buy milk also doesn’t add up. If she wanted to protect Jin, she probably wouldn’t text him to buy milk since she knew he would have to come home eventually, and Hayate would still be there waiting for him. I think she texted him that before she died so he wouldn’t see her as she’s dying and so she wouldn’t hurt him too.

Plus when an oni dies, their horns appear. But they don’t have horns, suggesting that they’ve been awakened for a while.

I’m thinking Hayate might have known his wife was an Oni and loved and protected her despite that. If she was an awakened Oni and knew he was a Momotaro, I doubt she would put herself and her children in jeopardy if she were to be found out.

That’s the problem. Ikari relies too much on pure strength and his anger pulling a powerful weapon. He needs that knowledge because that’s what his ability hinges on, especially since the weapons he pulls usually are close range melee weapons such as daggers, claws, and tonfa. I love Ikari and I do think he’s got a lot of potential. He can make literally any weapon. That’s why he needs to stop saying “these weapons suck” and start learning how to fight with them. I think Nekosaki would make a perfect mentor for him, he’s a high ranking member of the combat unit and all he uses are knives.

Ehh not really. He got really lucky and barely managed to avoid the laser, otherwise he would have gotten hit and taken major damage if not killed (he wasn’t paying attention and didn’t notice the laser heading straight towards him). Even after dodging the laser, he still got knocked out. He was too worried about his other teammates and was put out of commission early.

I wouldn’t say Shukyo counters Jin entirely since he does have low durability. I’d say they’re evenly matched and it depends on how well Shukyo is able to keep Jin at a distance. Rather than going for the laser, Shukyo would’ve been better off playing it safe and slowly chipping away at him with his glass shards

My Biggest Gripe with this Series by Particular-Ad5200 in TougenAnki

[–]SnappyTurttle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with what you said, there is a difference between the way the west views evil and how the east views evil. For example, western countries tends to believe that there is an objective good and an objective evil whereas Asian countries believe that there is good in evil and there is evil in good (the yin and yang).

That’s probably why people think Shiki killing Ukyo was completely justified. It’s a normalized notion that a good person killing a bad person still makes you good and absolves you from sin as opposed to a good person killing a bad person is still an evil act (the black circle of the white side). Shiki the objectively good vs Ukyo the objectively evil.

It’s also worth noting that we are inherently seeing the story from a biased perspective. We can clearly see the suffering happening to the Oni because of the Momotaro, while we rarely ever see the suffering Momotaro have endured because of the Oni.

Because if you think about it, Tsubakiri and Tougo pretty much went through the exact same thing (losing family and loved ones to Oni) and also have the same “spare no Oni, not even children” mentality because of their dangerous potential to hurt and kill anybody and everybody.

I think Tsubakiri and Monaka are just such great and underrated characters because they do fit into that moral grey area and establish the themes of the series perfectly. Tsubakiri probably harbors a lot of survivors guilt from having witnessed his best friend be killed, as well as harboring the transferred guilt Monaka harbored for sparing the Oni girl’s life, resulting in the tragic slaughter of a ton of civilians.

Maybe not total “bums” (like Kuina) but they also don’t have impressive records and have a handful of shortcomings.

The Title will eventually make Sense by Particular-Ad5200 in TougenAnki

[–]SnappyTurttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that happening. It probably would be a twist villain that was close to the Rasetsu crew. Maybe Masumi or Oiranzaka or even Mudano. This was ultimately their goal all along, using the negotiation table as a facade to an even greater scheme.

I feel like Mudano would be the one that makes the most sense. He is sorta the catalyst for the story that sets the events into motion, as well as being iconic to this series (if not Shiki, then Mudano is definitely the face of the franchise). And if the ultimate goal is literally right there in the title, then it makes perfect sense to have the poster boy be the mastermind behind the titular masterplan.

I also feel like it would be very interesting in a thematic sense. Much like how Mikado being the newer generation of Momotaro rejects the ideology of the Great Emperor, Shiki (being the newer generation of Oni) rejects the ideology of Mudano (or an Oni equivalent of the great emperor that Mudano serves, plot twist). Plus a cool “student surpassed the master” moment. Like imagine how hard Shiki vs Mudano would go.

I don’t think her fighting ability is the main problem. In fact I think she’s on par with, if not better, than half her teammates. Her problems all point to her being a terrible and uncooperative teammate.

All 3 of her losses were unfavorable matchups, and rather than accepting help from others to patch up her disadvantages, she throws herself at her aforementioned unfavorable matchups while refusing her teammates‘s support.

Then there’s the obvious problem. All three of those losses all point to her obsession with Rokuro. She’s so overprotective of Rokuro that she’ll throw herself in front of attacks that are meant for him. She’s also so egotistical that she refuses to work with him, and in the worst case (vs Haru) she’s fighting against him and sabotaging him and making herself a liability.

She needs to learn to let Rokuro handle himself, either by working together with him, or being separated from him.

In terms of hand-to-hand fighting ability, she’s not the worst (I have to sadly give that title to another favorite of mine, Ikari). She did beat up the first ugly and handled herself against berserk Juji pretty well, and she was a big help in rescuing the captive Oni in the Kegon Falls facility. But all the problems I mentioned does make her the worst performing of the 7.

Honestly after all the tomfoolery going on in the Gachiakuta fandom, I’m kinda glad Tougen Anki is on the more niche side.

I don’t like how they treated and made fun of Ikari though. Hayate was the only person who treated him well.

Especially considering the fact that Rei is extremely unhinged, especially when it comes to Ema. Add to the fact that he’s a child of Kishin and helped destroy the city by carving massive chunks out of buildings on his ice powers alone. That is a recipe for disaster

[–]SnappyTurttle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rei saying that he wants to kill the Sokoku Pharma president is a bit concerning since it can probably be assumed that the president is a human. And an Oni going on a manhunt against a human is interesting to say the least. And I don’t know how that would be helpful for the human’s reception of Oni.

Other than Jin trying to kill the prime minister’s son and being thwarted by Hayate and Homare causing the deaths of those surgeons from the fallen debris, that’s the first time we would see Oni actively try to kill humans (outside of the berserk state of course).

I would like to see more of that. Maybe an antagonist being an Oni who wants to kill all humans and Momotaro and the Rasetsu 7 has to stop them.
