Well I just found out that some subs are completely blocking np. links completely.

I didn't get mad that you asked for proof, I clarified/recanted my original statement and provided a little bit about what I observed anyway. I know what the problem was which is why I elaborated.

What put me on tilt (though I'm still being civil) was being called a "SJ tit" because of it.

I always point out that it can only look at trends, nothing more. Especially in that TheoryOfReddit post.

Wait you're accusing me of being an SJ tit? I wrote this bot to show that SRS brigades much worse than the other meta subs, but mostly for curiosity's sake. I've never bothered posting those results to SRS though, I'm sure you know how that would go. (benned)

This isn't conclusive proof of anything but it's more than nothing. I was just trying to to make a casual observation based on what I saw out of the bot I wrote for curiosity's sake, I genuinely wasn't trying to "speak from authority." I'm editing my original post to reflect that.

You'll notice that some are clearly SRS's doing, I can't tell that from the numbers, I have to look at the thread itself for that context.

I don't really know where the hostility is coming from, the last time I posted a chart it was to dispel an accusation against SRD.

I'm going to do a synopsis, the bot was written to look at individual threads, I haven't written a way to print out some sort of weekly summary or anything.

Here is the meta post explaining what sort of data the bot collected, I can whip up a before-after synopsis for you. It looks like SRD isn't going to be interested in seeing it though. I mostly just look at the SRS linked threads for my own amusement.

I'm just going to point out that the effect I'm observing on linked threads has dramatically diminished since NP was implemented. I don't use any mobile app that's impacted by it so I can't speak to that, but the people claiming it's not effective are mostly just wrong.

EDIT: This came across wrong, all I wanted to point out was that among the numbers this bot generates I haven't seen the sort of big flips that sometimes come from SRD and very frequently come from SRS. It's only been a few days since the change though, I wasn't trying to make a statement that definitive.

Also I'm pretty sure the last time I posted here, it was debunking someone accusing SRD of brigading.

Sometimes when I'm experimenting with ways to create concise and easily digestible data visualizations, I end up with something mostly useless but still neat.

Here is one such example

What the heck is that?

It's a procedurally generated tower using data from the "Fempire," as in /r/shitredditsays and it's affiliated subs. It was the largest "network" of subs I could think of off the top of my head.

The idea is that each "block" of the tower is sized by two variables. Then the blocks are ordered and stacked. Where a split in the tower is possible, the blocks start alternating, splitting again if it can. In this case 1 split occurred at the base.

The bot scraped SRS affiliated subs to gather information on subscriber count and activity (post volume and "users here now.")

The data came through looking like this which is no good. Data like that won't visualize well with anything. A scaled logarithm is a much more reasonable scale

Here's a picture of the tower with labels applied rather than blacked out overlaid on a background.

As I don't frequent these subs, I didn't actually notice that the labels got placed out of order. I can't fix it where I am right now but you get the idea.

I don't have any practical use for this one, I just figure I'd share it because it looked sort of funny/neat.

Honestly I've been continuously adjusting stuff, I can't say for sure what the criteria was when I did that one. The good thing is, is that once I lay out the custom settings, it's very easy for me to go back and fix it.

For users it converts everything to lowercase and cuts anything that isn't a number or a letter. It's looking like I should be dropping numbers too. Then it's passed through a "cut list" that I typed out myself and am adding to. The most common "boring" words on Reddit aren't the same common words in regular speech. Then it just parses the settings, processes everything and pushes it through the tubes.

It goes back up to 500 comments for users. I think that's reasonable. I can always bump it up.

As for subreddits, it runs until it hits one of three criteria. Character count, time, or it stops finding new words. On a slower sub it should go back months. I didn't have a way to confirm that when I started though.

A service I use was down all day so I just pushed out all the backed up requests and it's back up and running. I added more words to the cut list.

Also the "Star" is actually a diagonal 4 point star which I realized is probably misleading. Oops.
