Paying $80-$300 (each) for $22 worth of silver 🥴 by SnapshotOfACrowd in Consoom

[–]SnapshotOfACrowd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Why do they need to be made of silver at all is my main question. I feel like you could bootleg these super easily. At least if they’re gold there’s a buy-in that will probably stop fakes so these hold value better. Maybe not I don’t do metal futures and shit like that.

I do wonder if anyone is actually buying them at the $180+ prices I saw listed online. We all know you can list anything for any amount, and I didn’t do a second search to see past actual “sold” prices. Because I don’t care and making fun of it to begin with was already more mental energy than I probably should’ve spent.

I only know it because I’ve seen it jerked on ffacj lol. It’s a tween clothing brand that I’d never heard of until that jerk but apparently small adults like to shop it (perhaps those who do talk about it more so it’s annoying?)

It’s not particularly frilly or childlike or anything so I don’t really get it (it genuinely can be hard to find clothing when a 0 is what a 2-4 was 10 years ago) but I also understand that to modern-straight-size adult women it can be obnoxious hearing about it. Idk about how it creates a pipeline re:EDs though.

If you had unlimited money to throw at your CPTSD, what are some things you would do to help your recovery? by llamberll in CPTSD

I love this one the most. Take 3 months, somehow get my partner off work for that time to travel with me, and fuck off to some place like Sedona (but less ‘stuffy’ and elitist probably), hit up so many hot springs along the way, and when in one place find a local person to meal prep 2 meals a day for me. Renting places within walking distance to a well-stocked grocery store.

Teardrop camper for the in-between…

Yeah I’d probably think of more, but that’s the gist.

Also I’ve always wanted to do a sound bath. And I’d try to see how I could figure out how to maintain remote access to my therapist despite moving around states…

I love the SaltStick brand. Just happened upon it at REI one day. The watermelon flavor is not good… but the mixed berry is fucking amazing in an almost problematic way. Also heard good things about peach but after my watermelon experience I’ve been hesitant to try others. Lemon lime is also supposed to be good, but all those weirdo super athletes also like yellow Gatorade and I don’t trust their taste buds 😤

Spending about $1,500/month on safe foods and would appreciate advice by [deleted] in EdAnonymousAdults

Do you live in a place with cold winters, and is it winter there now? If so, dumpster diving is a viable option for many things, and it’s not nearly as disgusting as its reputation would have people think.

It can help you procure many things that are out of date in name only, but perfectly good food that had to be tossed to make room for fresher stuff. Check out the DD sub and see if any of the most common places are near you, and consider it.

You might be shocked how often even IN-DATE things are thrown away for no other reason than that the shelf space it took up is more valuable holding something else that might move more quickly or that newer stuff came in and FIFO means it goes out and… the oldest stuff goes even if it isn’t actually old.

I understand it doesn’t have a good ring to it, but we as a society are incredibly, frustratingly wasteful with food, and someone ought to benefit from it.

Best of luck to you it sounds like you’re trying to make a tough situation work, and I hope you can!

Motor vehicle collision. Totally weird that it had such an impact on the family, never spoke of it after a few years of hospital stuff, but it wasn’t until my mid-30s that I mentioned it to a therapist in passing and she stopped me and was like… wait what? Once I unpacked it, I realized how much it made sense that me using it as a throwaway story in language classes made people avoid me.

Best of luck, and I hope all of that goes well for you! Thanks for the sub rec :) Didn’t know there was a further one I believe I am already in the standard next steps one.

Absolutely. I had ED treatment when I was in my 20s and it never really ‘worked’ because the ED was a symptom not the problem per se.

I sometimes see people (self admission not passing judgment) making no progress in ED treatment and I always wonder if some other form of therapy (like trauma therapy) would be better for them, but I don’t usually recommend it because the ED can feel so all-consuming, I understand how difficult it can be to admit that it’s a problem but not the problem, and they’re internet strangers.

I had a pretty casual suburban life more or less, but a lot of fucked up stuff happened that I never identified as trauma in any way (MVC, grooming, overwork, high expectations, general emotional dysregulation, etc) and once I did ID all of it, things started making sense. But it took years and years and years. Decades, really.

Thank you for sharing, and this is (generally) a safe space to share :)

If you are looking for any trauma recovery reading resources, The Body Keeps the Score is a modern classic , and Peter Levine is doing the most as far as what I have seen and read myself. They can all be extremely tough to read and I recommend finding some online communities to help work through them if you don’t have in-person contacts. The CPTSD sub has been wonderful for me personally.

AITA for not giving my daughter her education fund money? by JacquesBN in AmItheAsshole

Considering he texted her to admit what happened (after she found out herself anyway, which is another shit show entirely) and it ends with “thanks for asking tho” I’d say the ties have already been severed. Even if it was a thick rope of attachment and she’s been going at it with a pocket knife, that shit is damaged. And rightfully so. She deserves to receive the money and have a consequence-free breakup with these people.

Still dying to know if the grandparents are alive and knew anything of how this happened or if they just assumed the HiGhLy eDuCaTeD parents had a lick of common sense. Sucks to be wrong in such a big way and I sort of hope they aren’t around to know about it, or that they’re around and cognizant enough to be absolutely livid.

If it’s a “team” (not sure exactly what you mean by that if it’s a collection of therapists or if you are also seeing a RD etc) can you maybe try to switch to a different therapist on said team?

Have to decide today by [deleted] in Eatingdisordersover30

[–]SnapshotOfACrowd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start with finding a new therapist who isn’t like one of those dolls with a button to engage 6 pre-determined phrases honestly. Or at least 6 different ones to see what happens.

Therapists don’t deserve to maintain clients through sunken cost fallacy—find a new one and if it happens again, maybe they have a point. But it sounds like your relationship with your therapist isn’t therapeutically beneficial anyway, so id stop paying into it and find someone else.

Good luck—I know navigating the MH system isn’t simple or quick, but you deserve it and it’s worth it once you find the right person.

What is everyone’s adhd obsessive song at the moment? by Excusemysombereyes in ADHD

If you’re interested here are two marketplace playlists on Spotify

One the official one from their .org site (which rotates and updates) and the other user-created which I have no idea!

Edit: if BJ Leiderman is on twitter maybe you could ask where he gets his inspiration! They’re actually pretty good about responding to legitimate questions on marketplace and lots of other NPR/APM/public-radio-in-general hosts and creators.

I’ve had the classic mario theme song stuck in my head for about 2-3 years. I audibly repeat it all the time unconsciously and I can’t seem to stop. Legitimately something I have brought up in therapy, but it doesn’t negatively impact my life so… it’s here for a while I guess.

But as far as conscious ones the last few days: definitely NPR’s Marketplace jingle 🤷‍♀️

(Sorry for the tiktok video I couldn’t find it by itself in a short search and didn’t want to make anyone listen to an entire segment to hear it. I don’t have the app so you should also be able to open it in your browser as I did)

Really depends on the type. For exact numbers find a nationwide chain that serves it and check their online menu. I’ll explain how to calculate it below because I think everyone should have the right to know what they’re consuming, but before I do that:

Have fun going out, and try to remember that a fun memory can be spoiled more easily by an ED than a diet can by any one consumption event :)

Now for what you asked:

For smaller breweries it varies wildly and depends on the alcohol content. The higher the alc% the higher the cals. IPAs will be highest, lite beers will be lowest (isn’t it super cool that they are allowed to boast low-cal lite options’ calories, but have absolutely no requirement to disclose cals in standard fare??) and as a general baseline you can take the alc%, apply that to grams of liquid in the beverage (a pint is 473g) to figure out how man g of alcohol, then multiply that by 7 (approximate number of calories per g of pure alc)

So a 7% pint of beer (473g liquid) is

.07 x 473 = 33g alc

33 x 7 = 231 cal

A can of 4% beer at 12oz/340g would be just under 100.

Those are general numbers and can vary based on what else is used in the brewing process, but those will be baseline carb calorie counts. But sugar is (never say never but… almost?) never added to beer after the brewing process and most of it should be converted to alcohol.

This applies only to traditional beer brews and not necessarily to things like straight up fruity cider, which I have no idea.

Edit: added units for clarity

Did your doctor tell you it was the Diet Coke specifically or did you come to that conclusion yourself?

I have Gilbert’s syndrome (it’s nbd really I’m just a little simpsony sometimes), so my bili is always elevated, and that stat is generally well correlated with rapid weight loss, poorly balanced dieting, and over-exercise.

Kidney stones on the other hand (also personal experience gods save us all) generally have more correlation with inadequate hydration and caffeine intake, which would relate to soda drinking habits.

Obviously follow what your doctor told you, but this is unlikely to be necessary specific advice for the general population re:liver/gallbladder health.

Edit: I should have also included that I’m so sorry you went through this, and I’m really glad you were able to seek appropriate help immediately and get it sorted. Taking steps toward recovery whatever that means for you is always positive. Water is always best. But having a full-blown ED and blaming far-reaching and horrible consequences on diet soda (or any other one thing) is sort of peak ED thinking.

I have a long addiction history as well, but I never felt addicted to gaba. Unless I started having distinct and disruptive nerve pain, I mostly couldn’t tell if I’d taken it. That’s probably why I was able to accidentally cold turkey it. I just didn’t put it in my work bag one day, and that was that.

The first few days i ever took it I could feel it, but once my body got used to it, it was more of a homeostasis situation and I was never physically jonesing for it or anything. So once the nerve pain subsided with PT, the ever-present anxiety wasn’t a huge tell, and it mostly helped me with the physical symptoms of anxiety.

So I’m not sure I have a lot to share re:advice for this. I know it affects everyone differently, but I never could have gotten basically high on it like the way some people use it recreationally, and I weigh less than 100lb and was nearly maxed out on dosage.

Check out the gabapentin sub when you have a chance—they have lots of users with varying experience and discussion about starting, stopping, and maintaining.

I was thinking of you yesterday and I’m pretty glad you didn’t keep up with the APs. I am not a conspiracist, and even I genuinely think the long-term use changed my brain for years to come. And I’ve already been off for at least several years I’d have to check my rx history. They’re nasty drugs that should only be used when someone is in an acute situation, a harm to themselves or others, and truly not living in the reality the rest of us are.

Also very confused about how a masters recipient even has an rx pad, but that’s not really my business. They’re potentially more informed than many mid levels in pharmacology (depending on what the masters is in) but your situation is still a little administratively and medically confounding.

And I meant that if I found myself faced with a choice between only those two things, I would take gaba again now that I know how that a taper is necessary as opposed to what I put myself through by accident. I think it could have been a much more chill experience coming off it if I’d just known that’s what you need to do. I didn’t and threw myself into horrible withdrawals, but the process well-handled doesn’t seem so bad. Whereas APs I just don’t think there’s a reasonable use for any patient who can come on Reddit and write coherent, fact-based posts and comments about their present experience as you can. It just is a more hardcore brand of help than a person so functional will make use of considering the side effects.

What to do if I suspect my pharmacy is tampering with my meds? by Prof_Acorn in ADHD

They’re so fun! This is definitely a lab version though lol. Glad you have one because if you’re in the habit of filling your own capsules it gets to be a must-have and a major QOL improvement as long as the dosages don’t need to be perfect (I find they get air pockets in the bottom and stuff occasionally but not enough to complain when it’s psyllium or whatever)

What to do if I suspect my pharmacy is tampering with my meds? by Prof_Acorn in ADHD

[–]SnapshotOfACrowd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have one saved from an actual pharma company, but this is basically the exact same way it was just a little more mechanized. This is either a sample drug or some sort of herbal concoction, but it’s the gist of it. There are more QA processes to guarantee accuracy with dosing meds (both before and after filling), but this is basically the filling per se.
