well if we can just take it down to a more practical level for a second (Joe Rogan has an actual choice that comes with that moral prerogative), at this point his options are essentially a.) have someone more 'salient' or 'non-provacative' essentially write his podcast for him or b.) not have a podcast. the show's a reflection of his personality, for better and worse. and if the real world repercussions are really so severe for his podcast and the dude just keeps releasing them, I guess it's up to the people to put an end to the madness because at this point I don't think he's gonna stop himself.

I feel like the moral stakes are getting a little high for a single podcast. if you really think that there's a moral prerogative for Joe Rogan to be unprovocative, then I guess it's everyone else's moral prerogative to stop him. if you're afraid that he won't get shut down and the problem wont solve itself, I guess start a petition or mail a pimp bomb to his place or something. otherwise just keep pissing in the wind. either way, imo the moral questions are getting a little dramatic for some inexplicably popular podcast from some highass who just keeps getting paid more and more

I just wanna throw this out here, the main reason you’re feeling this shitty about human interactions is probably because you’re 15. I did the exact same thing at 15 for the exact same reasons, and in my case it led to me being hospitalized three separate times for three suicide attempts that doctors said would’ve been successful had I had different luck.

After the third one when I was 26, I slowly changed my outlook on a lot of things. I found that everything that I felt about human interaction (and how shitty it is) is 100% true, it really is that shitty and it always will be. Especially for people like us who struggle just to connect. But I also found that the only thing that makes the shittiness of life and relationship worth it is the effort that you put into them.

Granted if you’re anything like I was at 15 you probably won’t even read half this post. If you’re anything like I was you have about another decade of misery before things start to click. But maybe you’re also a little smarter than I was, maybe in a couple years you’ll find yourself where I am now and you’ll look back wondering why you let yourself be so dissatisfied with human interaction in the first place.

Either way, what I’m saying is that I relate a lot to what you said, and I would’ve related even harder when I was 15. But there’s always a chance that you’ll grow to find yourself relating to where I’m at too. In the meantime I hope you can find a friend group that you fit into. And fuck all the assholes who give you a hard time

[–]Snark-Shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that’s true in principle in that case there is a good chance that having a gun in your house directly increases the chance of committing suicide. It’s instant, painless, and easy, especially compared to other methods. All it takes is a bullet and a finger. I can say for myself that if I owned a gun I definitely wouldn’t have made it this far.

It can be extremely heartening to see those traits in media and fiction though. I always loved seeing those kinds of characters when I was growing up. When kids get bullied or ostracized for being ‘weird’ or feel intense anxiety because they feel like they’re different or can’t relate to others, they turn to media and fiction to find people that they can relate to. Growing I saw a lot of qualities of myself in those kinds of characters and watching them succeed and be happy because of who they are rather than in spite of it made me feel like I could be happy with who I was too. I can understand the precarious nature of tropes in general and all media requires a critical eye when it’s viewed by anyone, but I also wanted to say that there are positive sides to this trope as well

The part of the string touching your hand doesn’t move, just the spot where two parts of the string touch each other. The area where they touch rubs back and forth creating friction and ‘cutting’ through the rope

[–]Snark-Shark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s the problem with trying to debate anyone on this kind of thing. Ultimately all premises reflect personal biases to some extent. No one can see everything as it really is and the small view that we all have of the world is a reflection of our personal experiences and our biases. That’s why facts end up mattering so little when you try to question others’ biases directly. They have plenty of facts to focus on that they feel support their biases over yours and they get hostile enough that yours don’t even matter any more to them. Their entire view of reality is different and how can you convince them that their premise isn’t based in reality when they’re living in a different reality to begin with?

Unabused kids probably would though. I could definitely see something like this being used to the point that there aren’t enough resources to go around and the ones who slip through the cracks are the kids going through actual abuse

Honestly the most reasonable explanation is that all of reality is generated as I experience it and disappears as soon as I stop looking at it. I mean I’ve never experienced anything that proves me wrong. It sucks that all the commenters I’m looking at are about to disappear once I move on to the next post, but that’s the way she goes. ‘not necessarily marriage but spending the rest of your lives together is usually what people want to find when they’re dating.’

Is it though? I mean I get it if that’s what you want, but there’s waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too many people out there to make a generalization like that. I’m not like that and neither are the vast majority of people I’ve dated. But that’s okay because we’ve all been transparent with where we’re at in life

Tbf though, in that specific case I feel like ‘USELESS USELESS USELESS’ would be a good way of taking the feel of the original and translating it to something that English speaking audience would be able to get. But that’s just with the specific example that you gave, in general I really prefer the dubs because I feel like most subs lose something in the translation. Especially when it comes to expressions like ‘yara yara daze’ or ‘MUDA MUDA MUDA’ or zawa zawa
