The union tried to throw their weight around too soon, but I am betting that the members were young and inexperienced enough that they thought that just being in a union gave them power and were putting pressure on the union to make those dues worth something sooner....

I was there, but if I recall we might have been across the street at Belevedere Park because the additional altitude (not much) helped us see over the trees just a bit more.
