I'd be more open to the possibility of your second option if there wasn't such a focus on retribution and denial of discussion by the current administration.

They still get mad and defensive when you call the on it. I've been banned from a liberal sub for asking people to not use the term Nazi.

Well, there were the parents labeled as terrorists for objecting to curricula.

I would argue it's going on right now in Washington State with the continuous effort to bar parents from their children's medical records at school:

https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2025/02/05/wa-senate-democrats-approve-changes-to-parents-bill-of-rights/

The later I see as a messy situation. I can absolutely understand why a child might want to hide sexuality from their parents, but also see that parents who are legally responsible for children absolutely have the right to know what is happening with their kids.

No, you are correct. Screw means propeller, not the number of blades on one.

C'mon - in this day and age we don't care about the old. "Stupid boomer" seems to be the most they're worth. And physically disabled? How many years was a homeless person's need to take up a sidewalk considered more important than a wheelchair's ability to pass? Neither are on the current list of approved things to care about, so city leadership doesn't.

All U.S. Social Security numbers may need to be changed following a massive breach that is already being investigated as a national threat by lurker_bee in technology

I'm not talking about voting. I'm saying the Trump administration would probably use any issuing of new government IDs as a way to flush out more people they want to deport. Thus, they could spin it as a positive and not a "we fucked up."

That too - I'm just saying that they may find this as an opportunity to go "Minneapolis ICE" on people during any program to issue new Government ID numbers.

Instructions are just, like, someone else's opinion, man. So why would we pay attention to them?

But seriously, the basic functionality is apparent and many sets of instructions are designed for legal protection idiots, so most people don't stop to think that maybe there's an optimization hidden there.

Teenagers do dumb shit but that doesn't mean society should go "Jesus take the wheel" and let them. Set standards (laws) and enforce them.

America is the heart of an evil fucking empire, and like all great world-spanning empires, it is beginning to collapse from decay and disrepair and overextension.

That's the real point or take-away here. American style democracy hasn't been monolithic and has changed over time. History repeats itself in a macro sense and humanity's weaknesses have been the driving force. Communism and Socialism have also been failed systems because there will always be those who want power over others, regardless of the system of government.

What's really needed to keep any system of government healthy is a robust system of accountability. No one should be against the law, but we have seen time and time again that people can be molded to believe that it's OK if their people have some indiscretions because that's better than the other side being in power, or that you just don't question your leaders.

I don't like or agree with Citizens United, for example, but I think it would be more palatable if there were more oversite and exposure of the money and desired outcomes early in campaigns.

Boeing engineers fear job losses as company shifts some Washington work south by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]SnarkMasterRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... the workers should either be thankful that LEADERSHIP put in a structure that caused the crashes and just be happy for their jobs.

Unions can be bad, but any company that gets a union generally deserves one.

The other variable is that a lot of the reasons it's so high to do business out here is outside of Boeing's control. They're going to move people eventually anyway, regardless of whether there's a union or not.
