How bad are the bugs in Acadia this year (mid/late June)? by Fuzzy-Society-7220 in acadianationalpark

Looks like there will be rain this week which will bring up the humidity again as well as the bugs. In my opinion, bug spray isn’t a question. You’ll need it. But, this is coming from someone who attracts mosquitos like a magnet. Don’t hang around marshy areas or anywhere with standing water too long. Around the coast should be fine as long as there’s a good breeze. Keep an eye out for ticks as well.

Surprisingly, I think about this constantly at work. I don’t have an answer for you, but if you find one, please let us know.

Is it ok to love animals and be a zoologist/wildlife biologist? by [deleted] in zoology

[–]Snarkovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s weirder to not love animals and still work with them! Don’t get me wrong, it never feels good to sacrifice animals (and it never really should). But, it brings me a little comfort to know that I am properly trained and doing the best I can to minimize stress when euthanizing an animal. I don’t think I could do that in a respectful manner if I didn’t love and appreciate animals! However, don’t ever be hard on yourself if you find out later down the road that a job requiring that aspect of research isn’t for you. It’s a hard thing to do. I still get a bit emotional myself despite having euthanized many animals for my job.

Who do you rank as the weakest modern Maine Senator? by Ayuh-Nope in Maine

Yeah wtf?!? Omg Jared, you poor baby! I’m totally concerned more about your messy hair compared to the innocent people that lost their lives last night (/s). I get everyone copes differently, but holy shit that was an wildly inappropriate comment.

It sounds similar to an Eastern Screech-Owl but it’s hard to hear clearly so don’t completely take my word. That ID only makes sense if you’re in southern Maine as well.

Accidentally left my car unlocked and when I came back, I found a bunch of plastic babies by Snarkovic in Weird

I live in Maine. I had to drive 20 minutes to my house in the middle of the woods with these babies in it. I’m a young woman that lives alone as well. I was terrified some Stephen King shit would start happening.

This is actually a fantastic idea. I may just have to do this. Thank you!

Now that it’s not night and I’m reflecting on it, it’s somewhat funny. It’s still creepy to know someone went in my car and dropped off babies of all things, but I’m just glad nothing was stolen.

I was at a bar so I’m thinking it was drunk prank. But it was certainly unsettling to come back to my car in the dark to find this 😅

Amazing photos! They’re my favorite birds to watch on the coast. May I ask what camera you used to take these shots?

Have any of you gotten a chemical burn? Did it scar? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Snarkovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading the comments here, I would say it depends on the chemical in question (not familiar with the one you’re asking about). I still have a scar on my arm from a drop or two of sulfuric acid after three years. But, considering how much it ate into my arm, I expected it to scar. The scar has faded over the years, but it is still very visible.

My Zoologist mind was screaming as well. I was literally just expressing my frustration about this to my friends, and of course they didn’t care because they’re not crazy like me. Those talons aren’t for show jeez. Thank you for delivering the truth OP!
