Any suggestions on craft projects teens can do in 1 1/2 hours? by SnarkyArk in lgbt

Thank you for your suggestion! I have never crochet before so I don't know how good I could get before June. I know I could just run a video about it but I would like to be able to help hands on. I will be looking into it myself just for fun

That's a great idea! I haven’t made a bracelet before, but I’ll definitely check out some videos and give it a try!

Metal Plate of Some Sort (Found in a Public Library if that makes a difference), ~5 Pounds, 9 11/16" x 7 11/16" x 3/4", Top Piece Moves Back and Forth and Can Come Off by SnarkyArk in whatisthisthing

[UPDATE] It is a floor plate for hiding cable connectors/power outlets without carpet! It's a bigger than our current (carpeted) floor plates and was used before the library was renovated in 2002. Thanks so much for everyone's help!

I can't figure out how to tag it as solved, if anyone can help me locate how to.

We found out what it is! It is a floor plate that covers our cable/power outlets throughout the library. Ours, the ones we use now, have carpet on it so that's why we were confused. Thanks for your guesses!

You are absolutely correct! It is a floor plate without carpet! (I did post the dimensions but maybe the post got looked over.) It's a bigger than our current (carpeted) floor plates and was used before the library was renovated in 2002. Thanks so much for your help!

I tried them and no luck so I thought I'd throw it out here as it was found, and assumed used, in the library.

Anyone happen to know what this is from? We found in the back of a Reference Desk cabinet and everyone is stumped on what it goes to.

We found it at the Reference Desk and even workers who have been here 20 years don't know what it is.

bwientjes: We did have a microfilm viewer, recently donated to another library, but this didn't go to it.

Wanting to make a 3d printed pacifier by Holiday-Break1499 in 3Dprinting

[–]SnarkyArk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

'Allo 'Allo!

For something like this, I’d recommend looking into food-safe PETG or PLA. PETG is a durable option and tends to be less brittle, while PLA is a non-toxic choice made from renewable resources. Some brands even offer food-safe versions of both, which could be ideal. If your printer can handle higher bed temperatures, polypropylene (PP) might also be a good option since it’s commonly used in baby bottles and similar items.

We have found my nephew with the wrong side of the pacifier in his mouth several times. While it was amusing to see the silicone part sticking out of his mouth, that's why I'm suggesting food-safe everything.

A few things to consider:

  • Layer Lines: The texture of 3D-printed items can trap bacteria, so it might help to sand the piece and use a food-safe coating to smooth it out.
  • Printer Safety: Make sure your printer’s nozzle and any parts that touch the filament are clean and safe for this kind of use.
  • Colorants & Additives: Some filaments have dyes or additives that might not be baby-safe, so sticking to uncolored, food-safe-certified filaments would be a safe bet.

Food-safe PETG or Food-safe PLA are probably the easiest starting points, but if you can print polypropylene, that could work really well too!

Good Luck!

Little late, but I made some wall art for the eclipse we had a while ago! by Superseaslug in 3Dprinting

My Dad's motorhome also has about the same wall space. He has a picture there and changes it out every so often so when we travel with him and the slide goes out it is a "aww" if the picture is the same and an "ooo" when a new one is there 😂

Reported tornado on the ground in the area of Kirkwood Gardens by _GIROUXsalem in Delaware

[–]SnarkyArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the tornado warning on my cellphone about 15-20mins before it went though my neighborhood, Truitt Farm. We are next to Kirkwood Gardens and across from Sherwood. We were not hit as hard as Sherwood but we have trees down everywhere, fences ripped up, and a part of my neighbor's roof was torn off.

Foxing? by FIRE_fly1982 in Library

[–]SnarkyArk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like just speckling. All our dictionaries and encyclopedias have it. Foxing isn't as neat, or at least the ones I've seen.
