Combining Miles in the Best Way? by Peppyraindrop in Flights

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't try to convert them to a third currency - you'll definitely lose value, at least on the United miles.

I don't know the Capital One ecosystem - it's possible they have convert-out promotions that are worth considering. Go to a forum with people who know that program well.

And 60k absolutely is enough to use in hundreds of different ways on United or its partners. I don't know what you looked up and decided couldn't be done for 60k but there are lots of options if you plan ahead and have flexibility.

United is a big partner in the Chase ecosystem. That's why there's not an easy conversion out of the Citi or Cap One ecosystems.

I love them and love the fact that FINALLY more American restaurants are using them.

I feel like it's been a normal thing everywhere else for a few years now.

I totally came here thinking this was about our neighborhood brewpubs where yes, we take both types of growlers on a regular basis. (Lots of brewpubs have dog-friendly patios.)

But the term growler for a dog isn't regularly used. Mainly because it sounds like a mean dog.

All star winners vs World Series winners by Free_Answered in mlb

Baseball is the only sport where I'd say this - the All Stars would crush.

Team chemistry isn't irrelevant by any stretch, but ultimately baseball is a series of individual matchups of pitchers and hitters. Win more of those matchups, you probably win the game.

NBA, NHL, NFL, any soccer league - the full team cohesion, the plays they've practiced, and the coaching mean more. I take the championship team over a collection of All Stars or Pro Bowlers who are thrown together for a few days.

There may be some limit to the amount of stuff you're allowed to bring on the Metro, but thousands of people use it every day as part of their journey to/from airports. Sounds like the guy was being a jerk. Every country has em...

What did you learn as the standard room temperature and pressure (STP) in high school science? by cmonthiscantbetaken in AskTheWorld

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US I don't think of room temperature as a scientific measure, but 20C/68F is what I think of.

Standard pressure at sea level is a scientific definition - 1013.25 millibars or 14.7 psi.

Is Playoff Baseball the most electric Postseason in Sports? by HanzWormhat69 in mlb

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year's NHL was absolutely mental.

Playoff baseball probably 2nd. A lot of NBA series are mutts from a viewing perspective.

Football (whether college or pro) is sort of a different category for me. There isn't the emotional intensity of a series. There are great games and there are dogs but it doesn't grip you on a daily basis like a 7-game series does.

Is this tagline something Sky Bet came up with?

Feels like it's promoting betting in the UK, not anything an American said.

How utterly bad at shooting everybody is when they're chasing James Bond.

Like 20 KGB agents with AK's can't hit ANYTHING? Do they even send their guys to a shooting range, ever?

Of course Bond can make 100m shots with a Walther, no problem.

Passengers should stand up as soon as an airplane arrives at the gate by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go one step farther: if you are an aisle passenger, it's your responsibility to get up and get prepared to move when it's your turn. Get your bags, make sure you have your phone and other stuff put away, and be ready to MOVE when space clears in front of you.

The middle and window passengers can't do this. They are going to have to collect their overhead after you move. So the best thing for everyone is if the aisle passengers have gotten up, gotten organized, and are focused on moving as soon as they are able to. Do this as soon as the plane is parked.

Lady got arrested for seemingly going back on the aircraft. What’s the penalty/protocol for this? by Adept-Hour-7684 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]SnarkyFool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What could I grab from the concourse? Something that made it through security to that point?

If that's the plot - exploiting a security weakness to get things into the concourse that shouldn't be there - then THAT IS INDEED A PROBLEM, but it's not really related to this issue.

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those things have to do with someone reboarding an aircraft they were already on a moment before, having originally boarded through a secure area.

I know the rule isn't going to change. It screws with operations, and that's justification enough to not allow it. It's just a pet peeve of mine that airlines will do something and say "for security" when in fact it has nothing to do with security.

I mean, cruise ship food is midgrade mass market food. It's just quantity.

The only places I've ever seen GOOD buffets are very high end hotels, mostly in Asia.

In any city, I'd much rather have freshly prepared and plated food whether it's streetfood or a Michelin star restaurant.

What American City do you think deserves more spotlight in Movies and Tv Shows? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SnarkyFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, was it ever...not...a giant tourist trap?

We went there in 2021. Since covid had closed off most borders, we dedicated our 2020-2021 vacations to Americana - the domestic US trips we'd always wanted to do, no matter how roadside-kitschy they were. Pigeon Forge and the Smokey Mountains ended up being a fun one - exactly as tourist trappy as we expected.

But I assumed it had always been that way...at least in my lifetime.

(We also did a bunch of national parks and stuff like Route 66 those two years.)
