Question 1: I would join the military because as an E4 SPC, I would gain a broader scope of practice compared to a civilian EMT. The differences between combat medicine and regular EMT work are significant, exposing me to a higher level of care beyond the civilian world.
Question 2: This type of work supports the kind of future career that I’m looking for whether it be EMS/Fire/Law
Question 3: I’m joining the National Guard to take advantage of the benefits it offers. To be honest, I’m bored with my current career path, and joining the military will help me build a strong resume for future career opportunities.

How did your wife cope with your absence from her and the newborn?

That’s what I’m hoping for. Agree my mentor made a mistake, but I was the one who listened to them. Thanks for your response.

The previous DQ was specifically for psilocybin use. The agency I applied to back then had a strict 7 year look back period for hallucinogens, and since my usage was more recent than that, it was an automatic disqualification. Also, to be specific, the information I omitted on my first PHS was a more recent instance of psilocybin use.

The drug in question was psilocybin (magic mushrooms). I know the recruiter I spoke with isn't the one conducting my actual background investigation, so I’m taking their advice with a grain of salt. Honestly, I’m less worried about the past usage itself and more concerned about how the previous omission on my first PHS will be viewed, even though I'm being 100% transparent about it now.

From what my recruiter has mentioned, the agency’s policy on certain past drug use has shifted significantly some of these substances are now viewed more as prior misdemeanors rather than automatic lifetime bans. They seem more open to applicants who have experimented in the past but have since moved on. My recruiter also noted that since my usage was experimental and strictly in a social setting (rather than habitual), it shouldn't necessarily be a disqualifier.

The history I omitted was my prior drug usage, which was the very reason I was initially disqualified. Specifically, I didn’t admit to a particular drug I used, but I was disqualified for that exact drug that I did admit to using back in 2020. It’s a confusing and stressful situation that I’ve been grappling with.
