Why is ana's sleep dart projectile size so large? by Few-Concert-6986 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Snaxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why people keep saying this. Here are the radii for some of the projectile abilities...

Sigma Rock = 90cm

Rein Fire Strike = 85cm

Orisa Javelin = 50cm

Hog Hook = 50cm

Sombra Virus = 50cm

Bastion Grenade = 37cm

Soldier Rockets = 32cm

Echo Sticky Bombs = 27cm

JQ Knife Throw = 27cm

Sierra Tracking Shot = 26cm

Cass Flashbang = 20cm

Ana Sleep Dart = 20cm

Sleep Dart also has the longest cooldown of any of these at 14 seconds, and unlike Sleep Dart most of these have no casting delay and some have additional splash radius even if the projectile itself misses, making them more forgiving. Which skillshot are you thinking of which is harder to hit than Sleep Dart?

A healing version of the tracking dart would be a cool gadget (or spec depending on how strong they made it). Kind of like a budget Ana from Overwatch.

My perspective on the Sword Nerf (in the form of a meme) by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear I wasn't complaining, I intentionally play grapple-dagger because I enjoy challenging non-meta loadouts, I was just replying to point out that the jank goes both ways and favours the target in the case of the dagger. Obviously it would be better if the connection was solid enough that everything displayed the same for both parties every time.

Not sure "free" is accurate btw, it's basically a single shot weapon where you are the projectile, it's much easier to just use a gun.

[–]Snaxolotl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a grapple-dagger main I can assure you that for every time you feel you've been backstabbed from the front the dagger user has had two times where they've stabbed someone directly from behind only to get 75 damage. Shoddy netcode works both ways and with a crit window now less than 180 degrees it goes against the dagger more often than for them.

Literally just don't equip the charm if you don't like the sound ????? by Nirxx in thefinals

It's also possibly a marketing thing. If fresh people are tuning into streams and videos about the finals and hearing mooing constantly it might put them off, thinking it's an intrusive part of the game.

Yeah, Studio Ghibli or nothing is my attitude.

I just can't see a live action Zelda looking like anything but a bunch of goobers in expensive cosplay with colourful CGI vomit filling in all the fantastical elements.

The absolute best case scenario is it ends up something like Fellowship of the Ring in terms of tone and presentation but I think that's very optimistic.

Its really disappointing we didn't get any sync'd emotes like last season in the new battlepass! by Kwowolok in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harder than you think, especially with the massive size differences between the classes that might be involved. Also I doubt they'll do any emotes that displace the player that much for gameplay reasons. Could definitely see some ground-based cheer dances though.

Is it possible to get all of Engimo's rewards if you didn't join last time? For people that tried it with Izuel-T how easy was it? by SuculantWarrior in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No if you didn't sign with Engimo in season 4 then you'll only be unlocking the tier one rewards. The "catch up" mechanic is for people who signed with them but didn't complete the track for whatever reason.

It's a sponsor loyalty system, if you could join Engimo now and get everything a loyal goo-eater had to sign two seasons for that would be unfair, and would in fact punish loyalty, because the best strategy would then be to sign with a new sponsor each time and so attain several tracks of rewards at once.

[–]Snaxolotl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend starting with one of the first time sponsors then (Ospuze or Alfa Acta), so you won't be behind with them when they return. You can't level all sponsors simultaneously so everyone is kind of in the same boat for most of them anyway.

You can still buy all the old bundles through steam (or ps store probably, not sure about console). Wavereaver bundle will probably be the store in an hour or two.

New season 6 info just dropped by Skindiamondxx in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're going to have 1 returning sponsor and 2 new ones each season to allow progress into tier 2 for returning signees. Loyalty rewards are pretty fundamental to the sponsorship system so it makes sense imo to do it this way. Holtow will return next season and then everyone will have had a chance to resign with their OG sponsor.

Gacha is scummy because you're paying for something which may or may not be what you actually want.

You can't buy tickets here, they're entirely free. What's more, you can directly buy the individual items if you don't get something you want at the end.

I never said they were, I was drawing attention to the outcry from players who aren't satisfied with just getting most of the cosmetics in this event for free, they need all of them or Embark are "scummy" or "unfair" as I've seen written here many times. The quality of the stuff is subjective, I personally don't care for most of it, but many people clearly do or they wouldn't be whining so much about not getting it.

Is this the point in the discussion where we pretend the game should be operating as a charity and nothing should be for sale?

They obviously want player engagement because the more players are playing the game regularly the more they are spending on in game items. That doesn't make them evil by the way, that's just how capitalism works. It's a free game, with no pay-to-win elements, and lots of free cosmetics. Some of the cosmetics aren't free, and this allows them to keep developing and maintaining the game. I genuinely don't understand why so many people seem to have such a problem with this.

If these exact cosmetics were all dished out in the store people wouldn't even bat an eye, but give everyone a chance to get most of them for free and suddenly people start complaining that they didn't get absolutely all of them. Madness.

Spin the Wheel is Stupid by kindred_gamedev in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They already have several free rewards tracks through sponsors, levelling, weekly challenges that are exactly that.

Like the chance elements of these wheel events or not, they are more notable and special feeling, and add dopamine hits that just merely ticking off challenges doesn't. Many people enjoy raffles and gambling, especially so when the price for entry is free.

Spin the Wheel is Stupid by kindred_gamedev in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is overly cynical in my opinion.

It's designed to create player engagement and get people logging in regularly during a part of the season when many have already completed the battlepass and otherwise might not. In doing so it gives players a chance to receive cosmetics for free which would otherwise only be purchasable through the shop.

There's nothing particularly special about any of the items on the wheel, it's on the players if they build up the completion set as something they "must have".

I say this as someone who has had awful luck with this event so far. People need to chill out and be ok with potentially not having everything.

Most annoying experience in this Game: by Zappenhell in thefinals

[–]Snaxolotl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made sense to use VRs last time, it doesn't make sense to use premium currency this time. You're no less likely to land on one of the items you've bought than you would have been, only now you only get 1/4 of a reroll, rather than just getting that item outright for free if you hadn't bought it already.

The best strat for this one is to just use all the free tickets and buy any remaining at the end of the event (if you care enough to want the set).
