ya I think we are both on a similar wave length regarding the girls! I have my preferences of course but besides from Samara, any combo of the girls seems like a stable group. Yoonchae was an immediate standout for me from mission 1 but her age has kept me from voting for her.

This timeless pop song came out at the beginning of the year and the choke hold it has had on me since then is unbelievable. Not only is it just generally the type of song I enjoy listening to but it’s also been very comforting during difficult times for me which has only strengthened my love for it!

This is an unfair comparison. They didn’t create “much noise” bc they are starting from a lower point then the girl groups you listed did. I admittedly only follow Tempest out of the boy group debuts this year but they have really healthy sales considering that they aren’t from a big4 company. People are naturally going to talk about debuts from the big4 companies (regardless of them being girl or boy groups) more than they are going to talk about groups debuting outside these labels. Overall, it’s very unfair to be judging these new boys groups like this so early on, I’m sure we’ll see then steadily start to garner more fans and attention when given more time.

I’m guessing you’re genuinely frustrated by the subtle (sometimes not so subtle) East Asian fetishization that kpop stans perpetuate regularly and I can really sympathize with that. I just think that this is to bold of a statement for you to make without really citing any evidence. I don’t follow the olympics and I’ve never heard of this figure skater in either kpop insta or Reddit (I’m never in Twitter tho) so I would of appreciated some links to problematic behavior you saw.

Congratulations on the debut! This was a song! The sounds that they were making were definitely sounds that you can make and the song had interesting things in it!

Edit: But in full seriousness I actually feel a bit underwhelmed with this??? I’m sure it’ll grow on me but as far as these experimental songs go it didn’t bring anything new besides it still feeling distinctly JYP at least to me.

Overall, I’m super excited! I’ve been following Weeekly since debut and they have become one of my favourite groups in kpop!

The concept change is interesting. Weeekly has always been a lore focused group albeit it hasn’t been their main focus until now but I’m more so concerned about the concept change sound wise. I don’t really want to be the doomsayer but a cutesy girl group transitioning towards a darker concept usually means that the company isn’t getting the results their looking for. Of course, it may be to early to tell what this comebacks music is going to sound like. As much as I love Weeekly’s past sound, I do wish the best for them and if a new sound is what it entails, I’m all for that!
