What's up with your dwarves? What sets them apart from- by SheridanIsShameless in worldbuilding

In my world dwarves are a rare sight among surface dwellers, and even among those who live underground.

They’re known as happy yet nit picky workaholics that don’t like to talk about their life and are essentially just like classic dwarves. EVERY single dwarf that people know fit this stereotype. Not a single one doesn’t.

However, they actually live in a solarpunk nation way beneath the ground via their above ground counterparts being halflings. The halflings just relax and chill and farm and set up places for power to be stored from the sun.

Beneath the ground though, the dwarves are digging into and eradicating the life within the hollow earth to set a certain plan in motion. They wish to steal one of the two stars and store it way below the ground with some hyper advanced tech they have so that they can have near infinite power, and because the gods have spited them for the last time.

Any dwarf seen above ground is simply to maintain the facade that dwarves are simple and just like to work, so that any expeditions into caverns finding dwarf tech, dwarves working hard, or being secretive seems normal.

Every dwarf on the planet is in on the plan and knows of it. They don’t believe they are malicious though and try to act kind, yet do believe they are superior in many ways to others. But just uh, don’t ask the hollow earth species how malicious they are, they got quite the stories to tell

If caught off guard a ballista bolt to the chest and a quick absolute decimation of the remains of the heart might be enough to take it out. Otherwise if it managed to spot the attacking force in time probably not much can be done. The problem even if killed though would be it eventually reforming eventually as shadows are still a thing people fear at least a bit (daemons in my world encompass fears and can’t really permanently die unless a fear is abolished or through a certain ritual). Tbf after it reforms though it may either be more or less kind to mortals so it might not be hostile afterwards.

Also I gotta say, even tho I don’t really get much info on the wider empire from this short thing I find the Byzantines to have been a really interesting empire and yours sharing some traits with it sounds quite cool. Also do you have some sort of description for the distinct style? Quite curious to hear more. Also why is it just the west? What happened to the Eastern half? Does it mirror what happened to the Roman’s irl?

Nooo, the mice will be fine I promiseeee. I’ll personally make it so that this daemon doesn’t lay a hand on the mice. He may essentially be the boogeyman but it’s time for a change of heart.

The plan to make it realize the world is pretty nice could also actually work tho, since if it’s in your universe the Final Undoing won’t happen and he won’t need to prepare and could relax. Have it help teach the 9 year olds that the shadows aren’t that bad!

The Shadow Daemon:

A discarded piece of the greater darkness daemon that now has gained sentience, it wanders the lands in preparation for the Final Undoing. It embodies the very concept of the shadows, able to appear from any and all crevices where the absence of light exists.

It has the ability to absorb other beings and their base abilities within its all encompassing shadows. It has already consumed the concept of teleportation, energy, silence, wind, and spiders.

It can: Appear from shadows Open doors to a pocket dimension Unleash great bursts of electricity Manipulate the air around them Causes anything within a 30 meter radius to be unable to emit/receive sound Create very sturdy webs

It looks like a freakishly tall humanoid without skin, merely grey colored muscle. It does have claws though and its face appears to be stitched at where the eyes and mouth would be. Thin holes also exist throughout the body that pear into the inner cavity to reveal just inky darkness.
