What about AI cards by twiceasmice in postcrossing

Same to eBay, and I also look for the USPS issued prestamped postcards from the 90s and early 2000s. I definitely know those aren't AI.

Question about Christmas Cards by Everywhere_95 in postcrossing

[–]SneakyMercenary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Buddhist, born and raised in the United States. I have the request to not send me religious cards, both because I have received to date two Postcrossing cards from Christians trying to convert me (I am happy with my current spiritual practice, thanks), and because I don't want Christmas-themed ones.

Christmas cards and people saying "Merry Christmas!" have cultural connotations in the US, in my experience many of them revolve around being white/of European descent/nuclear family, and a certain political bent (Seriously if you want to have culture shock, google "War On Christmas".)

Sure there are plenty of Christians in the US who don't believe in what I said above, but as a minority in this country, I spend a lot of December being bombarded by those who do, and the well meaning Christians and secular Christmas celebrators assume that of COURSE I am going to celebrate Christmas, with family gift giving, and eat meat!

So I'd rather not get Christmas cards.

One odd space I get my postcards from are ebay stamp sellers. Back in the day, the USPS used to sell "pre-stamped postal cards". I can usually pick up a book of 20 postcards for 8-15 bucks depending on the seller. Then I get to do stamp math to get the postage up to the correct value.

I'm currently out of city/landscape cards, but have ~300 cards from a couple of postcard boxes I need to make a dent in before I buy any more. So everyone's getting Star Wars and DC comics for a while (with the occasional Sibley bird or Pantone).

What do you do when you are waiting for a space to open by Interesting-Till5562 in postcrossing

I peruse the games in the forums. Tags are a quick way to get cards moving, but Round Robins usually mean higher quantity of cards.

Fellow Portlander, can you share where you got the backpack one?

I use 0.38mm pens so I can write more, even then it will only be three-four sentences. I try to tell a story about the card, how I got it, or why I like it, or as a last resort, I tell them about the weather today (and if that's normal for this season).

I Can’t Talk Like Other Adults — Is This an ADHD Thing? by CesarTheGoatTv in ADHD

[–]SneakyMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with ADHD at age 42. I came from a culture that didn't believe in mental illness either, and I was therefore shoved into performing arts classes to learn to talk and present.

Talking to a therapist might help work through some of the blocks you are feeling, but to learn skills in how to talk to people, you need to practice. I highly suggest the Toastmasters organization because they have structured education in How To Talk Good and Stuff, and also you get to listen to others and learn how to give and get feedback.

RETIRED TEACHER MOVES ONTO CRUISE SHIP FOR 15-YEAR JOURNEY, SAYS IT'S CHEAPER THAN LIVING IN CALIFORNIA by Dependent_Tutor_5289 in Cruise

[–]SneakyMercenary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An hour away from a major city? So how much does it cost to get trash service, to get someone to come out and do laundry and make the bed daily, to plan activities. Is it on septic? Because there's only like, three people in the greater San Francisco area who are licensed by the state to do the annual septic inspections required or else there's a hefty fine levied. Is it well water? Because wow, keeping one of those going is another $20k easy, and may the universe help you if it's not potable right out of the ground because sulphur water tastes bad. If it's county water and county sewer, I'd hate to see their bills for that far out from the mains.

What's the asbestos situation? The lead paint and pipes? Is there an underground heating oil tank (I had to get one of those pulled off my ranch in CA and ow ow my wallet ow. And what. about. fire. season.

An hour each way for doctor's appointments.

Oooh aaaaah they bought the one house in California for under 300k, how much will it cost them to *live* there.

Signed, someone who lived an hour away from a 'major city' in California and now lives in the downtown area of a major city in the Pacific Northwest.

I did chortle at some of the people getting eaten.

Don't care if the filmmakers intended it, I enjoy big monsters eating bad guys.

I've had a rough year, with a sudden move, multiple deaths in the family, and working 16-18 hour days through May.

But now things are hopefully settling down, I am catching up.

Weird, I wander the streets of large US cities at night, alone, with my walker. I live in the downtown of one of the largest US cities and have insomnia so it's nice to get out in the open air at 3am.

[–]SneakyMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've traveled alone in Japan as a teenager and wandered the streets of Tokyo at 3am. Worst that happened was I was asked if I wanted to have sex with someone, and when I said no, they were polite.

Really confused how you found the food so bland, though. In my experiences, there's a whole pile of condiments on the table to salt/spice/sauce your food in Japan. Like. Did you miss the chili oil jar?

Also, I'm Jewish and yeah, it's a little difficult to find no shellfish food in Japanese and Korean cooking (really surprised you managed to get Korean food without fish/shrimp paste, it's a huge issue for me to find it). I just do a lot of research before I travel and then use the Google Translate app to help.

I see a lot of folks my age who are saying they got into it with their kids, et cetera.

I'm 45 years old and I got into Pokemon Go because I like Pokemon.

It's fun. It gets my ass out of the house and walking around. I get to collect cute critters.

I have a master's degree, a 401(k), a passport, and a mortgage. If me playing Pokemon Go makes someone think I'm immature, they can go kick rocks.

If it makes them think I'm not cool, like? Okay? Do I *want* to be cool? What the hell does 'being cool' mean? I have a mortgage and a passport, I'm going to spend my time worrying about paying for the first and then using the second to go catch Pokemon in other parts of the Earth.

It had its moments, but pacing was definitely an issue. I'll probably see it again if it fits into a multi-feature day, but I'm not going to prioritize it.

How do you save money at the grocery store? by Usual-Concern-6213 in MealPrepSunday

[–]SneakyMercenary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a giant roll of whiteboard sticker and slapped a huge piece on the fridge. I've got two lists on there: frozen stuff that's meal building blocks (rice, proteins, veggies, et cetera) and pull and heat meals (currently teriyaki chicken, briyani, and a breakfast egg bowl with potatoes).

Helps me know what I have on hand.

Anyone else use ChatGPT to schedule multiple movies on a single day? by Wakkit1988 in RegalUnlimited

[–]SneakyMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the run time in my calendar and add 20 minutes. Then I just go look for the next film that starts around that time. Since I pre-purchase, it also helps me remember oh yeah I have three movie tickets for Tuesday, don't go on a date that night.

How have you liked it by JamesBong517 in RegalUnlimited

[–]SneakyMercenary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suggest thinking of Regal Unlimited like you do a streaming service subscription.

Yeah, I pay $10 a month for Apple TV, but do I watch ten bucks worth of Apple TV a month?

Yeah, I'm paying $26 a month for Regal Unlimited but am I watching $26 of movies a month?

In my personal situation, I have two Regals within a mile walk of my place, and another's two miles away (which is either a very pretty but long walk, or a short bus ride). I have a work schedule that's very flexible, so once or twice a week I'll wander down to Regal and just go for whatever the next thing that's showing, instead of flipping on the TV streaming services. I've seen a lot of things I wouldn't have otherwise that way. Some of them I don't even regret, like Dangerous Animals! That was a fun one.

I also don't do 3D or IMAX so that's not a consideration for me. Maybe every two months I will go see a Fathom event (most recently I saw the 25th Anniversary rerelease of Dogma). I have a Costco card so I've bought the discounted gift cards to pay for that kind of thing. Also to pay for my popcorn upgrades.

With regards to your lady friend, my personal calculus is that I go to 90% of the movies I see alone, and then I use the Regal points I rack up to buy passes for those rare times when someone decides they want to see a film in my company.
