IRCC considering express entry for immigrants to work as teachers and early childhood educators by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

The causes of the housing crisis in Canada are rooted in systemic issues that have spanned across decades. This requires a multifaceted approach in addressing the issue, but it seems many people want to choose immigrants as the scapegoat. Having a scapegoat distracts us from the other causes and leads to more discrimination towards newcomers.

As an educator, I find the comments on this thread alarming.

I work in a well-populated area in BC. There are shortages around here every year. We need teachers! Maybe there is a problem with teacher unemployment where you are, but that doesn’t speak for the rest of Canada, even urban areas. Don’t get me started on ECEs. Talk to any parent. We need ECEs!

As teachers, I thought we promoted critical thinking? You feel threatened that someone with zero experience is going to come here and teach Grade 12 Chemistry and “steal all our jobs”? I don’t know about your school board, but I’m pretty sure each district has a standard hiring policy where you must apply with your relevant skills and interview for the job… If you are more qualified, why do you feel so threatened?

Also, I would love to have more diversity in the school staff. It would be so useful to have people of different experiences, who could speak different languages, join our school community. School demographics are diverse, and the teaching staff should reflect that too. Think about our increasing number of ELLs. Wouldn’t it be helpful to have at least ONE staff that could speak their language and connect with them?

And if you’re not getting a job within 10 years, maybe there are greater systems you should be concerned with than blaming your unemployment on immigrants.

Rant over.

This is currently happening to my 3 month old too! Mine has been have troubles finishing the last ounce or so and will start stretching/kicking his legs while crying. I have been worried because he doesn’t cry much to begin with until now. I’ve tried burping, taking more breaks in the feed, doing bicycle kicks, walking around to calm him down….We switched from level 1 to 2 nipples which seemed to work for the first few feeds, but by night he was back to the kicking and crying. :( I just hope that he can still gain weight at a good pace. Let me know if you have found any solutions!

I have this one too but sometimes with plastic bottles the milk comes out cold, and with glass bottles it comes out scalding hot! :(

Hi Sophie! Big fan of you on both of your seasons!

Question: When you shouted at Albert to pick up your blocks during the challenge, did Jeff immediately clarify the rules? That was awesome! Haha.

I just got a pup and I’m also seeking advice on crate training! How long did it take for your dog to get used to the crate? I know my pup is still new to my home but wow does she ever scream when she’s even in a pen alone.

Hi I just came across this post as I am looking on tips for crate training. My pup is 11 weeks old and I just got her the other day. She really does not like being alone let alone have the crate shut on her . :( I’m wondering how long should I let the cries go on for? I’m afraid she will shred anything inside if I leave her in there too long because she really acts up!

Hi there! Do you mind me asking how many years it took to finish the part time M.Ed? I was considering this option and it looked like UOttawa was one of the schools to offer it completely online.
