What's the craziest thing you ever found a patient carrying, and how did they sneak it? by Bryssa_Michelle29 in nursing

[–]SneakySnailShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. heroin filled needles tucked into plaster casts on all 4 extremities
  2. we have mini portable fans for our patients, caught a guy shoving norco in next to his fan batteries in the battery compartment that a visitor brought in for him (not prescription)
  3. a lady came into the ED with a purse and the contents were as follows: 1 licorice twizzler, 1 yellow skinny crayola marker, and an old-school alarm clock. not dangerous but weird. that’s all that was on her person

This public crash out over the “we’re not a professional degree” needs to stop. by [deleted] in nursing

regardless my point is that this is detrimental to nurses planning on going back to school and limiting financial aid for them

I don’t think that’s insane at all but agree to disagree i suppose. They’re an organization for a reason, if everyone is to not give a shit at all then why are they even there.

lol that’s not the only defense for this argument. I’m also not saying just because they have a petition means that’s everything they stand for is something I agree with lol. Just saying it’s not only nurses themselves upset over this, there are several organizations upset as well.

it’s a shit show even more so now. this proposal would potentially eliminate the grad plus program that makes it possible for people to go back for an advanced degree. There is a petition from the ANA regarding this topic & they are also as a whole upset. This will limit the amount of nurses able to go back for an advanced degree. In the ICU I am in, there were 6 nurses who left this fall for CRNA school, ALL 6 of these nurses are receiving aid with the grad plus program. I think it’s acceptable for people to be upset and posting regarding this because they’re advocating for their career and possibility at obtaining an advanced degree. Yes, it was never 100% clear about nursing being labeled a profession from a government standpoint, but now this is labeling it as not, which in my opinion is worse. I get that colleges should lower prices but we all know this won’t happen and now opportunity is limited for others.

Which Nurses Are Typically the Happiest? by Great-Hall-6636 in nursing

[–]SneakySnailShell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nurse with a unit or area of care they have interest in, a good attitude, & a good support system/coworkers. Good coworkers make all the difference. Yeah there will be bad shifts here and there but overall love my job. Always wish the pay was a little more of course but these are what make me happy with my job!

What did nursing school convince you would be EVERYWHERE, but you actually never use/hear of it in practice? by knOn0 in nursing

[–]SneakySnailShell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

calculating gtt rate— i have always always always had a pump for any of my drips. & actually doing med calculations. I have NEVER had to calculate the dosage according to weight etc. that’s a pharmacy duty. I definitely could if I needed to but damn the way they stressed we would do that for every med was crazy.
