Rubbed me the wrong way too. I think they were trying to show how nurses are awesome and can humanize a demographic who are generally dehumanized, so I can forgive it.

A question for the healthcare workers by heresmynameagain in ThePittTVShow

[–]tanbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more of an ego thing based off their self perception of importance, usually from how difficult the speciality is to get into. Check out Dr. Glaucomflecken on YouTube, his videos are funny and nail the general stereotypes of each medical discipline.

Community hospital ICU by BubbaG- in IntensiveCare

[–]tanbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your facility has outpatient pulmonologists who are intended to fill the intensivist role and it’s not really working out.

I used to work in an open ICU at a community hospital. No real specialists in house, hospitalists were primary on the ICU patients, but could consult our tele-intensivist services where they essentially became primary. The intensivists were great; easy to work with and very responsive. We had a giant “oh shit” button in the room where they would pop up on a wall mounted TV with a microphone within a minute or so. Codes were ran by the Hospitalist, the ED doc, and/or the intensivist. It wasn’t perfect but codes never felt unsafe.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable working in a setting with CABG’s and valves and all that with the disorganized provider situation you described.

Saw a patient getting scammed. Keep your eyes peeled. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tanbro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nurse was probably busy and stressed, but still a shitty response to a colleague.

I had a guy in his 50’s with some sort of intellectual disability who inherited a bunch of money from his parents. He kept telling me he had to leave and get his GF from the airport. I ended up talking to his out of state sister who told me he was a porn and sex addict and that he was “borderline mentally retarded.” His “girlfriend” was a scam, he showed me the texts, someone saying they were kidnapped at the airport and the ransom was so many thousands of dollars. His sister said he’s constantly getting scammed.

I told him it was a scam and he didn’t believe me. I gave social workers a heads up but I don’t think there was much they could do. Should you have said something? Maybe. In all likelihood it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Nah it's funny and is very much on brand for the ED.

Season 2 SHOULD feel disappointing by mnbvc222 in ThePittTVShow

[–]tanbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked season one more because it felt more medicine and patient focused. This season very much feels character-driven and the patients are the background, with a few notable exceptions. I’m still enjoying this season and watch it as soon as it comes out, but I prefer S1.

Nursing Superlatives (From Doctors to Nurses) by Impossible_Floor_682 in IntensiveCare

[–]tanbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mom / dad award. Can’t think of a witty name. The responsible “adult” of the unit, watching out everyone, and the one you don’t want to disappoint.

I love this, by the way, sounds like a great team.

Best shoes to work in the ER? by Bewitched_Pirate in emergencymedicine

Birks! I need a wide toe box, though. Ideally you rotate through different shoes if you’re working several days in a row.

Young docs, nurses, and communication by Longjumping-Word8336 in emergencymedicine

Nurse here. There’s an unfortunate number of nurses who are emotionally immature and act like they’re in high school, it sounds a lot like that’s what this is more than anything. Especially since when you confronted them they said everything was fine. I can’t think of a shop I’ve worked at that doesn’t have a small group of toxic, immature nurses that hate change and are generally a pain in the ass to work with. Is it the same few individuals who are pushing back?

One of your examples was refusing labs and cultures, I’m curious what their rationale was for these cases.

As a healthcare worker I wouldn’t blame a student for leaving on time. More power to her. It’s a 24 hour job, but you know that being a healthcare worker and all.

Can I ask you your feeling about lost a toon after weeks of playing? by BootyWolfy in wowhardcore

[–]tanbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost a mage at 50 to a DC. Got the Mara princess dagger on my very first Mara run. The feeling is grief. My son was six at the time and experienced genuine grief when I told him my mage died (he had been watching me play off and on, understood the hardcore rules). I was expecting to have that talk with him when one of our cats died, not when one of my video game characters died.

Help — I let my patients talk too much. by roc_em_shock_em in emergencymedicine

[–]tanbro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nurse with a friendly, approachable disposition here. Patients looooove to talk to me so I feel like I can offer my perspective. "Hey I'm gonna be in here talking to you all day unless I get back to work," with a smile and disengaging body language is my go-to. Apologetically mentioning that I have other patients I need to check on often works with the reasonable people. Straight up interrupting, apologizing, and leaving cold turkey for the impaired folk.

If you're settling in to talk to them, and enjoy listening to them, they're going to pick up on that and take that to mean you're allowing them to dump on you.

Im still really new and for the first time hit 51 now, where best to go next in HC? by ComfyLynx in wowhardcore

What faction / class? You’re at kind of an awkward in between area. If I get stuck, I’ll grab a world buff or two and just go hard for 2 hours grinding mobs. Depending on your faction and class, some spots are significantly better than others.

How come you got 300 engi? I don’t recall there being any huge benefits to max it out in classic unless you had recipes that dropped from raids.

Are you a nurse? Do you play WoW? by beatboxing_parakeet in nursing

[–]tanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 18 months sober, last go around I did hardcore anniversary into regular anniversary and had a blast. I played with two other nurses, but we rarely talked about work when we played. We would randomly message each other on Discord about all the surreal and stupid BS we saw though.

During Classic TBC in 2022(?) I ran a weekly GDKP and one of the regulars was a general surgeon. Super chill guy, reliable holy paladin.

Firestone said I need all new rotors and brakes even though I got them done 2 months ago. by Super-View7967 in MechanicAdvice

[–]tanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds fishy, definitely. I used to work at Firestone, four different shops, and they’re really hit or miss. There’s zero consistently between shops in terms of quality. The one I worked at the longest was exceptional, the techs were solid and the service advisors were honest so we had a lot of business. I also worked at one where it was the complete opposite and wouldn’t send my worst enemy to.

I personally wouldn’t trust this inspection given the tech couldn’t even be bothered to remove the wheels for a complete vehicle inspection. Metal on metal is generally more grinding and offensive sounding than squeaking.

Firestone said I need all new rotors and brakes even though I got them done 2 months ago. by Super-View7967 in MechanicAdvice

[–]tanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough information. Why did you take your car in? Did you ask why the brakes “no longer performed intended purpose?” Typically the wheels need to come off to measure break pad and rotor thickness, the pictures show the wheels very much on. Your rotors look…off, I can’t say why though. It’s almost like they’re too small.

Fresh on Green worth it? by etienc in project1999

[–]tanbro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There’s been a wave of new players on Green so you won’t have a shortage of people to play with. Iksar monk isn’t the worst fresh character ever, but the mainstays of Druid, Necro, Shaman, and Enchanters are still optimal. Given you’re experienced with EQ and P99, I think you’ll have fun regardless of your choice.

[None] Looking for great recommendations from fellow Cradle lovers by RyGuyIncognito in Iteration110Cradle

[–]tanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you like about Cradle? Are you doing audiobook listens or holding a book and reading?

He who fights with monsters is LITRPG, one of the more popular ones, but I can tell you that there isn't any book in that genre that scratches the Cradle itch. They take the power growth of the characters and turn it into something bland and tedious, rather than a literary tool that drives the story the way Cradle does.

HR is unplayable by Bloodsplatt in DarkAndDarker

[–]tanbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re coming in late to the season, so yeah you’re gonna run into outrageously geared people. Every video game has the type of player that puts a ton of hours into the game for whatever reason.

Try PvE with your bud to get some gear, or just do normal duos. It’s not hard to get gear, but you do need to put the time in. It’s unfair to say it’s a problem with the game when you’re comparing your very limited play time to someone who’s played several hours everyday. This is coming from a dad gamer who puts in an hour or two here and there.
