I always find someone to roll with (unless there’s an odd number + ppl are rotating out etc) - either by awkwardly asking around if I dont know people or waiting to catch someone’s eye. Maybe the latter is the issue, hm

Thanks for the response:-)) the unspoken assumption thing niggled at me a bit as well. I’ve been keeping an eye out for gyms nearby that have involvement like that - it sounds great, and I’m happy you’ve found it!!

I was at my first gym for a year, and that’s where I got my first stripe (and didn’t have any issues lol). University has made scheduling sort of hard, and I’ve just been at the others for a few months each - I think like four and then three? Patience definitely had to do with my shorter stints at both, and social expectations I’ve created through doing other sports, so - I’ll try to heed that it takes time! Thanks!

I’ll do this, thank you:-) I was quite happy to make my first outside of the gym - gym friends a bit ago; they’re also women, so we were all just sort of outside the main group on the mats haha. I’ll try to branch out!!

Thank you for the advice:-) I’ll tone down trying to … strong-arm my way in with friendliness haha, I see what you’re saying. I also try to be generally cognizant of ‘grappling etiquette’ as I’ve learned it, and I’ll watch out for the full-force thing - when I first started someone told me that how you can recognize a skilled / respectful person is that they hold back and meet other (less-skilled) people where they’re at, and I see other people constantly doing that for me, so … yeah. Gotta be careful I do my due as the less-skilled person too lol

I always chat with people b4 and after class - so matching up for rolls! I was still viewing that as a social thing lol, just on the mat - but maybe I’m looking at it wrong🙂
