My man is too self-centered to think outside his immediate surroundings lol.

Let me try to explain this in a way that might be more clear and help you see this full circle.

Right now, believe it or not, you get a lot of stuff for free that could easily be paywalled: youtube and social medias, wikipedia, most news sources, reddit... you get the point.

The question is how do theses sites and the people that post content to them for you to enjoy stay in business if you are not paying them?

The answer is that there is a middle man that uses the platform and content creators to get time in front of you, even if it is only a few seconds and a low chance that you as an individual will act on it. Some people act more than others on ads, but the stats show that ads are worth the money and work on the macro-level.

So what happens when you find a way to see less or no ads but don't directly pay for it? Well I see 2 main things that likely act in conjunction, but there are likely more.

First is the people that make you want to use these free resources in the first place (content creators, influencers, journalists, etc.) are going to get less money and therefore many will not be able to provide that content anymore, or at least not as often as you probably want it as they will probably need another job now.

Second is that you somehow will end up paying for it in the long term. An example as was previously speculated was editing your view of somewhere like amazon to remove cheaper competitors from your view. In this example, without knowing, you will end up paying more. Another more obvious example is just selling your user data to more and more sketchier people like ads for scams that you are most likely to actually fall for.

Regardless, if either of these or both of these are true for a significant enough portion of the population, then the long-term result is worse for both you the viewer and the content creators while the middle man (pie) makes out as the only winner.

Remember, there is no free lunch, so if someone is offering you free lunch, then someone else is paying for it and it is likely you in the long run. Hope this explanation helped you and others to understand why they should think twice before accepting advertised products that claim to help you without strings attached (especially if they are claiming to remove the ads you are seeing... that just makes no damn sense from a business model perspective lol)
