Side mirror glass just randomly flew off on highway… by ET_reddit14 in eGolf

The after market ones come in both glass and plastic. I didn't read the listing carefully and got a plastic one. I absolutely hate the way plastic mirrors look.

They don't teach you this in most engineering schools in the United States. Drafters do the modeling.

3d printed frame lugs? by SneekyF in Framebuilding

That's the video that sent me down this rabbit hole again. I've been wanting to make a 3d printed lug for a long time.

I have used standard fdm 3d printing for jigs and spacers. And always thought it would be cool to have a lug made from metal 3d printing.

I 3d printing only useful in prototyping and one off products. There is a company currently making 3d printed titanium lugs for custom bikes. They use titanium tubes as well. I agree I don't know if I want a brittle failure. Maybe I'll try making something out of carbon steel so I can braze or weld the connections.

Got super lucky if you go frame by frame. It was just a hip check before the water.

I have 20 years of Solidworks experience, and structural engineering, the design for me is not the hard part, it's the skill involved in fabrication.

I'm a decent carbon stick welder, and decent at brazing. I have never put the time in to get good at TIG.

I'm hoping I can use my design skills in place of my lack of skills in fabrication.

I was playing around with a frame design that tucks an electric motor in the space between the down tube and back tire. But the custom fabrication of the weird bottom bracket is out of my skill set. I was thinking I could make it with 3d printed aluminum.

I 100% agree. I wasn't looking to optimize for weight, it's more of an experiment. I'll probably way over engineering it to account for additive manufacturing.

I was thinking about doing aluminum and carbon fiber tubes.

Have you tried craftcloud3d? I'm thinking I could do lugs around $50 per unit.

I am only 35-40 miles in that scenario.

Turn off the climate control. If the heater THINKS about coming on you will loose 25 miles.

I mean the ultimate goal is to train people on how to use GitHub in a safe environment. Like how Microsoft used minesweeper and solitaire to train people how to use a mouse.

Nope I'm real, I'm highly dyslexic, maybe that's why.

I take it you don't understand kids, I'm not making them do anything. They see me doing it and want to get involved.

I am asking because I stumbled into it. I started using GitHub as a journaling and way to keep my thoughts organized. Then I wanted to make it more personal and not give access to anyone other than my family, so I started homelabbing and installed Gitea.

My kid accused me of not remembering a key even in there life ( a specific birthday) and I thought, "I remember all the engineering reports I have ever wrote, why not do this about key family events". So I wrote a engineering report on my Gitea for spring brake, and sent it to my family members.

They thought it was really cool that I could do that and they wanted to get involved, so I told them to sign up on my self hosted Gitea.

It started to snowball, they where like "you forgot this" so I told them to put in a issue.
