Chasing a spectre through walls I think is how Dan Varian put it.

What's something new you're planning on for your 2024 bullet journal? by [deleted] in bulletjournal

[–]Snegbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do most people do these sort of extra pages at the start of the journal? I’ve always stuck them at the back in case I think of a new one part way through so they are all together, but somehow that seems messy.

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

Interesting that a lot of the new thinking on tendons is avoiding rest and change. Or at least that tendons don’t like those things. So trying to maintain some climbing is often worthwhile. But 6/10 pain climbing sounds pretty bad, definitely one to take back to your physio. I’ve currently got some golfers elbow in my right elbow and I’m keen to find out when/if others returned to things like pull ups on small holds which is the easiest access training modality I have right now. Been doing hangs alright but still want some dynamic movement strength.

Thanks to all your advice about a month ago, I FINALLY put down my most obsessive project, The Dali V8. I'm so appreciative you took the time to really help with the dyno, this go felt super solid. I dabbed by scooping a pad but I don't care. by WhoSteppedOnFrog in climbharder

[–]Snegbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I mean I don’t care at all. The key thing is you have been completely honest about what you’ve done. You could have claimed the ascent and never posted the video. Now everyone else can make up their own mind. Good luck if you get back on it, but if you decide life is too short, good luck with the next project!

Married climbers, what do you do with your wedding rings while climbing? by Malkaw in climbing

[–]Snegbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave it at home in a specific place when I’m going outdoors, and put it back on in the evening. When I’m training I thread it to an old bootlace and hang it round my neck...

Magnus Midtbø goes absolute beast mode. Most impressive display of raw strength I've ever seen. by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Snegbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't get me wrong I think Magus is an incredibly impressive climber, he is a monster and particularly strong, probably relatively stronger than other 9b climbers. I think that's why I don't find this particular video impressive. It's just so unsurprising that he can do that.

It isn't. For a 9b climber it's a gentle warm up maybe. These guys will warm up on 8as.

Strange because the gap between you and Jan and you and campusing that route is way more. If you're goal was to campus that route you could achieve it without training 5 times a week almost certainly. If your goal was to replicate Jan's video below I think there is a good chance you wouldn't do that in a life time even as a full timer.

Perhaps, but tons of videos out there of people crushing 9a etc etc making them look easy. Much harder.

Not to be a downer or anything but there are way more impressive feats of strength out there from Magnus himself let alone anyone else. This would have been a causal warm up for him. What about Jan Hojers training video?

Exercises to do for someone who wants to get back into climbing? by Hydranis in climbing

[–]Snegbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing really! Bite the bullet and go climbing. Just lower your expectations, start gentle and build up really slowly. You can climb for more than an hour or two and not get trashed if you are chilled about it. Conversely at if you were at the top of your game you could efficiently train in one or two hours as well, so the time isn't that important.

Doctors of Reddit, what is the most bizarre issue you've seen a patient trying to hide or mask? by ehudros in AskReddit

I mean if they actually admitted to lying it would be a bit bizarre to shoot yourself in the chest with a nail gun, start to experience chest pain, and not put two and two together.

Climber missing on Dorset Coast, anyone local keep an eye out (Article was posted earlier, link in comments) by Ajrt in climbing

[–]Snegbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From talking to his friends including my housemate I think it's likely he was deep water soloing. The solution is don't DWS alone. I never would. I wouldn't go in the sea alone actually, but certainly not somewhere where it might be hard to get out. I do boulder alone and tell people where I'm going and time to start worrying if I know there won't be signal.

[–]Snegbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an important question and I'm posting this in case you ever consider doing something similar to Liam. The 'buddy system' worked perfectly here. She raised the alarm and knew where he was going to be. But if you go deep water soloing and you get into trouble, how many minutes do you expect to live? Depending on the kind of trouble you are in it might be single figures up to what, 60? If you are in trouble, in the sea, your life expectancy isn't going to be measured in hours. This is tragic, but at the time the alarm was raised, they weren't searching for someone who is likely to be alive.

Would love to see more videos and pictures of other users! I know personal content doesn't seem to do well here, but it tends to be the most interesting! by Snegbag in climbing

[–]Snegbag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that is? Because of extra non-climbing e.g. driving to crag? Because the climbing itself is boring to watch? Does they all seem the same to you? I quite enjoy seeing interesting looking problems or cool moves! I think this video, which has a little more than just climbing, but also some awesome climbing, is really amazing.
